Box Score EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 27, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse starts off strong in the first half, but UMBC comebacks with a late push to win in overtime 8-7 over the Mountaineers. Justin Weick and CJ Stowell led the Mountaineers with two goals apiece. UMBC's Brandon Galloway had a game high three goals.
Dylan Furnback returned to the lineup and made ten saves for the Mountaineers, while Tommy Lingner made seven saves for the Retrievers.
The Mount controlled the possession battle in the first quarter, but trailed 2-1. UMBC got on the board first with a goal from Ryan Frawley, but Weick tied it up four minutes later at 1-1. UMBC scored with 40 seconds left in the first quarter to take a 2-1 lead.
The Mount responded with a big second quarter starting off with two goals from Joe Bethke and Stowell to take a 3-2 lead. Luke Frankeny scored in his fourth straight game to double the lead for the Mount. Weick scored his second goal of the game to give the Mountaineers a 5-2 lead into halftime.
The Mount started off the third quarter with Steven Schmitt's first goal of his career to extend the lead to four. UMBC ended their 23:35 goal drought with a goal from Galloway. Galloway scored another goal to make it 6-4 going into the fourth quarter.
The Mount started off the fourth quarter with another goal from Stowell to make it 7-4 with 8:35 remaining. The Mount held strong, until the final three minutes where UMBC scored three staright goals to force overtime.
In overtime, UMBC's Mason Edwards took the opening faceoff and scored six seconds into overtime to win 8-7 over the Mount.
