The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team is set to take the field for the first time since Nov. 3, 2019 after seeing the fall season
cancelled due to COVID-19. The Mountaineers will face Delaware State in the lone non-conference game in the Mount's abbreviated nine-game schedule this Spring.
MOUNT UPDATE:Â The Mountaineers finished the 2019 season with a 3-13-1 overall record and 2-7-1 mark in the Northeast Conference.Â
Elisabeth Rockhill led the Mount with three goals and seven points while
Kalli Bell and
Brianna Luongo tied for the team lead with two assists each.Â
Maggie Barron started 11 games in goal, finishing the year with a 1.81 goals against average and 98 saves.Â
Maria Buonomo earned Second Team All-NEC honors for the second straight year to lead the defense. All five will return for the Mount this spring.
DELAWARE STATE UPDATE: The Hornets are 0-2 this season with losses to Saint Joseph's (4-1) and LaSalle (9-0). Ashley Maribo has started both games in goal, making 13 saves this season. Mackenzie Burns scored for DSU in the opening game at Saint Joseph's.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES: This will be the 11th all-time meeting between the Mount and Delaware State with the Mountaineers holding a 5-3-2 edge in the series. The Hornets have had the better of the Mount of late in the series, posting a 3-0-2 record over the past five matchups. The teams have battled to a draw in each of the two meetings (1-1 in 2018 and 0-0 in 2017). The Mount is 2-2-0 all-time at Delaware State, and the Mount's last win over DSU was a 3-1 victory on September 22, 2013.
THE SCHEDULE: The Mountaineers are playing an abbreviated nine-game schedule this spring with the non-conference matchup at Delaware State being followed by eight Northeast Conference games. The top two teams in NEC regular season will advance to the NEC title game.Â
UP NEXT: The Mountaineers open Northeast Conference play at LIU on Tuesday, March 2, with a 1:00 p.m. matchup. The Mount's first home game will be the following week against Merrimack on Tuesday, March 9, at 4:00 p.m. at
Waldron Family Stadium. At this time, fans will not be permitted at Mount home games, however all home games this season will be streamed live on
NEC Front Row.
