EMMITSBURG, Md. (November 4, 2021) – Looking to break a four-game slide, Mount St. Mary's men's water polo welcomes Fordham and Wagner to the ARCC Swimming Pool for the first time.
MOUNT UPDATE
Despite dropping four straight, the Mount take plenty of positives into the two games. Hard work adjusting to a Division I-level schedule is beginning to pay off. Last week saw a defensive battle against Bucknell, resulting in a 12-9 defeat. They then took George Washington down to the final minute in their home opener. The ultimate 12-11 decision to the Colonials was an improvement over the September 25
th game in D.C., which the Mount lost 20-13.
Jason O'Donnell upped his goal total to 83 with eight tallies against the Bison and Colonials, adding eight steals against Bucknell.
Zach Fischer went a perfect 3-for-3 against George Washington.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Fordham leads the MAWPC East with a perfect 8-0 record in conference, while going 20-4 for the entire season. Wagner is ahead of the Mount in fifth place, earning a 3-5 mark heading into the weekend.
The Rams saw Lucas Nieto Jasny score five goals in five tries during the Mount's first meeting with them, and five more goals from George Papanikolaou in the second head-to-head. For Wagner, Oliver Fodor serves as their primary scorer with 107, and has drawn the most exclusions with 42.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Mount St. Mary's is seeking their first victories against both teams. They have lost twice to Fordham this year by scores of 21-8 and 19-10. Wagner defeated the Mount 20-12 in their first-ever meeting last October 9
th.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
A quartet of games next weekend closes out the regular season, all at home. The Mount faces Johns Hopkins, Penn State Behrend, Navy and Bucknell.
