EMMITSBURG, Md. (November 27, 2021) – The second of three Power 5 opponents awaits Mount St. Mary's women's basketball Sunday as the journey to South Carolina for a date with the Clemson Tigers.
THE MATCHUP
Mount St. Mary's and Clemson meet for the first time Sunday afternoon.
MOUNTAINEER REPORT
An uncharacteristic low scoring first half doomed the Mountaineers to a 56-49 defeat to Howard this past Tuesday. Held to 14 points by halftime, the team recorded its lowest total across 20 minutes since a November 2018 defeat at Michigan.
A second half surge could not overcome the deficit, but it did allow
Kendall Bresee to reach double digits in scoring for the third straight contest and take over as the team leader in scoring. The graduate student now leads the Mount in points per game, rebounds, assists and blocks.
Already embattled in their longest losing streak in almost two years, the Mount looks to pull off the upset and avoid a fourth straight – something that hasn't happened since the 2017-18 season.
STUDYING THE TIGERS
Clemson enters the matchup riding a two-game win streak, notching wins over Penn State and North Florida. Like Bresee for the Mountaineers, the Tigers boast a leader in Delicia Washington. The 5-10 graduate guard leads her squad in points, rebounds, assists, and steals.
Taking down Notre Dame in the ACC Tournament last season boosted their credibility for the WNIT, where they advanced to the second round before losing to Delaware.
LOOKING AHEAD
One week from now, the Mount will travel to Baltimore for a meeting with rival Loyola. Tip-off is 5 p.m. from Reitz Arena.
