ANNAPOLIS, Md. (November 21, 2021) – With a defeat at the hands of Johns Hopkins Sunday, the Mount St. Mary's men's water polo team finished their second year as a program and inaugural season in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference East in eighth place and a record of 7-24.
The final game of the year was a defensive battle, tied at halftime and at the end of the third quarter. A pair of 3-0 runs including late goals in the fourth helped JHU earn seventh place in the league.
True to form,
Jason O'Donnell led the Mountaineers in offense, scoring more than half the team's goals with four.
Kiahi Horan chipped in two goals and
Zach Fischer added one to cap off his freshman season. In goal,
Marko Kruska finished with nine saves for his final contest as a Mount student-athlete.
Staunch defense and a buzzer beater goal from O'Donnell forged a tie at the break. Early in the fourth, Fischer's goal put the Mount up 7-6. But that would be the last goal of the season, and Hopkins surged ahead with three more tallies.
The season now completed, the Mount works on next season, where they continue working on development their youthful squad. Competition picks up in late summer 2022.
