EMMITSBURG, Md. (November 16, 2021) – First-year head coach
Antoine White and staff, guided by recruiting coordinator
Julie Kaufman, have signed on three student-athletes for the 2022-23 season. Carissa Dunham, Giana Hoddinott and McKenzie Matheny turned in their National Letters of Intent (NLI's) as members of Mount St. Mary's Class of 2026.
"We are thrilled to have Carissa, Giana and McKenzie join our program." said White. "All three are great people on and off the court. These three will bring a high level of character, skill and work ethic to next year's roster. I couldn't be happier for them and their families."
Carissa Dunham, Villa Maria HS, Erie, Pa.
Dunham comes from the northwest corner of the Keystone State, making All-State and First Team All-District as a standout for the Victors' girls' basketball team. At 5-foot-8, the shooting guard posted a Third Team selection on the 4A squad. Her team went undefeated before falling to Archbishop Wood in the 4A final in Hershey last spring. During that run, Dunham led the team in scoring (10.5 points per game) and shot 45 percent from downtown to post 51 triples over 21 games. An additional accolade from her sophomore season was a Second Team All-District selection.
Giana Hoddinott, Delone Catholic HS, McSherrystown, Pa.
Hoddinott chose to stay local for her college career following an exciting interscholastic showing in nearby McSherrystown. Averaging 16.3 points and shooting 82 percent from the charity stripe as a junior, she is closing in 1,000 points for her senior year. Also known for her ability to hit three-pointers, Hoddinott becomes the second Squirette to land in the Northeast Conference, joining Maddie Comly who went to FDU. Delone has also produced several other D1 athletes, including commits to Duke and Georgetown.
McKenzie Matheny, West Springfield HS, West Springfield, Va.
Matheny travels from the D.C. area, where she was a stellar forward for the Spartans during her high school career. Originally competing at Lake Braddock, she moved over to West Springfield as a sophomore, where she was a regular on the Patriot District and Occoquan Regional Teams. Last season, she received the distinction of Co-Player of the Year for the Patriot, along with her second straight First Team Occoquan selection. As a sophomore, Matheny garnered a Second Team All-State nod.
The Mount women's basketball team stands 1-2 this season and will challenge Lehigh Friday night on the road.
