EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 7, 2021) – Following a weekend out of the pool, Mount St. Mary's men's water polo heads to New York City for a pair of games. They challenge Fordham in the Bronx Friday and Wagner on Staten Island Saturday.
MOUNT UPDATE
Using an emergency goalie in freshman
Michael Lemishko, the Mount opened MAWPC East play with a challenge. Losing the opener to George Washington, they rallied for a 15-14 defeat of the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays. Mount stands at 5-8 on the year with a 1-1 conference record.
Both
Jason O'Donnell and
Eli Thalos are converting more than half their goals, with O'Donnell leading in scoring with 51. O'Donnell also leads in steals with 45, while Thalos leads in assists with 23. Freshman
Jaden McNeal-Villafana has also been efficient, hitting seven of his nine shots.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Fordham comes into the weekend with a 14-4 record but are also coming off a loss to Long Beach State in their last outing. In yesterday's Top 20 poll, the Rams were tied with Air Force for 17
th.
Wagner stands at 8-11 with a 1-3 record in MAWPC play. The Seahawks went 2-2 in their recent trip to California, defeating Whittier College and Chapman. Oliver Fodor leads the teams with 71 goals scored and 80 points.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Saturday's meeting with Wagner is the first between the two sides. The Mount played Fordham earlier this year, with the Rams winning 21-8.
