Mount Women's Soccer Closes Out 2021 Season with Pair of Road Games

Mount St. Mary's closes out the 2021 season with road games at Fairleigh Dickinson and Saint Francis U this week.  The Mountaineers are coming off a tough 2-1 overtime loss at Howard on Sunday.  The game at FDU is a make-up of the September 24 game that was postponed at halftime with the score tied at 0-0 due to the weather. 

MOUNT UPDATE:  The Mount saw its record fall to 4-12-0 overall and 2-6-0 in the Northeast Conference on the season with a 2-1 overtime loss at Howard on Sunday.  Maria Buonomo scored her first goal of the season in the loss at Howard with Elisabeth Rockhill picking up the assist.  Rockhill leads the Mount in scoring with 15 points on four goals and seven assists.  Kalli Bell is second on the team with 13 points (3g, 7a) while Hannah Cooksey has a team-high five goals.  The Mount has scored 20 goals on the year with eight different players scoring.  Arden Lembryk has played in 12 games in goal, posing a 2.07 goals against average and a .774 save percentage.

LAST TIME OUT:  The Mount fell at Howard, 2-1, in overtime on Sunday.  Maria Buonomo scored on a header on a free kick cross from Elisabeth Rockhill to tie the game in the 72nd minute.  The Mount had several good scoring chances in overtime, but could not converted.  The Bison scored the game winner in the 98th minute on a header off a free kick.  Click HERE for the full recap.

ABOUT FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON:  Fairleigh Dickinson battled St. Francis Brooklyn to a scoreless draw on Sunday and enters the game with an 8-5-3 overall record and a 5-2-1 mark in the Northeast Conference.  The Knights are tied with Howard for third place in the NEC standings with 16 points.  Aitana Martinez-Montoya leads FDU in scoring with seven goals and 15 points this season.  Naemi Hausen is second on the team with three goals and eight points while Madelyn Robbins has a team-high four assists.  Malene Nielsen has played every minute in goal this year for the Knights, posting a 1.04 goals against average and a .820 save percentage with eight shutouts.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES WITH FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON:  Fairleigh Dickinson holds a 13-6-2 lead in the all-time series with the Mount that began in 2000.  The Knights have won the past two meetings in the series, and are 3-0-1 over the past four matchups.  The Mount's last win over FDU was a 2-1 victory on October 30, 2016, at the Mount's Waldron Family Stadium.  The Mountaineers hold a 2-8-0 record all-time on the road against the Knights.

LAST YEAR'S MATCHUP:  Naemi Hausen scored in the 55th minute to lift Fairleigh Dickinson to a 1-0 win over the Mount on April 2nd at the Mount's Waldron Family Stadium in the spring. Hausen scored on a rebound to the lone goal of the match.  FDU held a 21-to-5 shot advantage in the game, including a 9-to-1 edge in shots on goal.  Maggie Barron made six saves for the Mountaineers while Katie Leckonby made one save for the Knights.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES WITH SAINT FRANCIS U:  Saint Francis U holds a 21-9-1 lead in the all-time series with the Mountaineers that began in the Mount's first-ever season in 1992.  Saint Francis has won 11 in a row in the series, and owns a 15-1-0 record against the Mount since 2005.  The Mount's lone win over the Red Flash during that span was a 1-0 victory at home on October 16, 2009.  Overall, the Mountaineers are 2-10-0 on the road against SFU with the Mount's last win in Loretto coming on September 10, 2002 (1-0).

LAST MEETING:  The Mount and SFU did not play this past Spring as the Red Flash sat out the spring season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The last meeting between the two teams was a 2-1 SFU win in double-overtime at the Mount's Waldron Family Stadium.  Maddie Tchou scored in the 27th minute to put the Mount on top, but the Red Flash evened the score on a Dakota Graham goal in the 60th minute.  Alyssa McGhee scored the game-winner 30 seconds into the second overtime to lift SFU to the win.  The Red Flash held a 22-to-13 advantage in shots in the game, including a 9-to-5 margin in shots on goal.  Maggie Barron made seven saves for the Mountaineers while Julian Hernan had four saves for SFU.
