Mount St. Mary's Women's Soccer Travels to Merrimack for Sunday Matchup

After a 10-day break, the Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team returns to action on Sunday with a Northeast Conference matchup at Merrimack.  The Mountaineers are coming off a 2-1 home loss to LIU on October 7.

MOUNT UPDATE:  Mount St. Mary's enters Sunday's game at Merrimack with a 4-9-0 overall record and a 2-3-0 mark in the Northeast Conference.  Hannah Cooskey, who saw her three-game goal scoring streak end against LIU, leads the Mount with five goals this season.  Elisabeth Rockhill paces the Mount with 14 points this season on four goals and six assists while Kalli Bell has 13 points on three goals and a team-high seven assists.  In goal, Arden Lembryk has appeared in 10 games with nine starts, posting a 1.90 goals against average while she is second in the Northeast Conference with a .795 save percentage.

LAST TIME OUT:  The Mountaineers dropped a 2-1 decision at home to LIU on October 7 in their last game.  The Mount got a game-tying goal from Isabella Wendler with 21:11 remaining in the game, but LIU countered a minute later to break the tie and secure the win.  Brenda Aleman and Elisabeth Rockhill picked up assists on Wendler's score.  Arden Lembryk made three saves in the evenly played matchup as each team had 14 shots in the contest.

ABOUT MERRIMACK:  Merrimack is coming off a 1-0 double-overtime loss at Bryant on Thursday afternoon.  Michele Silva played goal in the opening half, making a pair of saves.  Claire DeFlora played the second half, collecting six saves in the game.  Silva has appeared in 11 games with 10 starts in goal and has a 1.27 goals against average and a .765 save percentage.  DeFlora has played in seven contests with four starts and carries a 2.59 goals against average and a .745 save percentage.  Ella Cormier, Molly Murnane and Hallie Shieres are tied for the team lead with three goals each while Cormier and Murnane each have a team-best three assists.  After recording 13 goals over the first 10 games this year, Merrimack has been held off the scoreboard in each of their past four games.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES WITH MERRIMACK:  This will be the third all-time meeting between the Mount and Merrimack with each team holding a road win in the all-time series.  Last year, Merrimack downed the Mount, 2-0, at the Mount's Waldron Family Stadium.  In the first-ever matchup between the two schools, the Mount posted a 2-1 win at Merrimack on October 4, 2019.

LAST YEAR'S MATCHUP:  Merrimack posted a 2-0 win at the Mount on March 3 in the last meeting between the two squads.  The Warriors scored just 1:16 into the game when Nicole Langlois knocked in a Rebecca Harty corner kick for the 1-0 advantage.  The Mount had a chance just four minutes later to even the score, but Hannah Cooksey's shot caromed off the crossbar.  Merrimack scored an insurance goal in the 78th minute when Bridget Austin's shot to the upper right corner beat Mount keeper Arden Lembryk for the 2-0 lead.  Merrimack held a 25=-to-8 shot advantage in the game, including an 8-to-4 edge in shots on target.  Lembryk made six saves in her first collegiate start for the Mountaineers. 
 
TIDBITS:  Kalli Bell leads the Mount and the Northeast Conference with seven assists this season…Her seven assists are the third-best single-season mark in school history…Teammate Elisabeth Rockhill is right behind Bell with six assists this season, good for second in the NEC…Rockhill has a team-high 14 points this year (4g, 6a) with Bell next with 13 (3g, 7a)…Hannah Cooksey has a team-high five goals, the most in a season by a Mountaineer since Jenna West had five in 2017.

HEAD COACH TORI KRAUSE:  Head coach Tor Krause is in her fourth season at the helm of the Mount women's soccer program.  This past spring, Krause led the Mount to a 4-5-0 record, the team's highest winning percentage (.444) since the 2000 team went 7-8-2 (.471).  Krause is a 2014 graduate of Davidson where she appeared in 51 career games.

UP NEXT:  The Mountaineers return home for the final time to host St. Francis Brooklyn on Thursday, October 21, at 5:00 p.m. at Waldron Family Stadium on campus.  The Mount closes the season with road games at Howard (Oct. 24), Fairleigh Dickinson (Oct. 28) and Saint Francis U (Oct. 31).
