Box Score EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 11, 2020) - The Mountaineers took home their first victory at E.T. Straw Family Stadium Wednesday in a 10-2 victory against the Coppin State Eagles. Mount improves to 2-10 on the season, while Coppin falls to 3-9.
A six run fourth inning was the catalyst to the win, ignited by a two-run double off the bat of Brady Drawbaugh. Three bases loaded walks and a fielders choice RBI made up for the additional four runs.
The frame broke a frustrating 16 inning stretch where the Mountaineers had been held scoreless.
Add-on runs were tacked on in the fifth inning with an RBI single by Ryan Fisher, a sacrifice fly from Jack Lawrence in the sixth and a squeeze play from Bryant Shives in the eighth.
Pitching was solid throughout the day. Jordan Geber started the game with two good innings, allowing one hit and three strikeouts. Cole Reeder conceded a run in the fourth, but thanks to that Mount's six run inning, he picked up his second win of the season. Brett Midkiff, Blake Beal, Sean Flynn, Luke Pryor, and Michael Yetter all contributed scoreless relief efforts. Combined, the staff struck out 13 Coppin batters - their highest total of the year.
Coppin mustered five hits on the day, with multi-hit performances from Marcos Castillo and Justin Banks.
Mount St. Mary's is slated to host Lehigh in a Friday (March 13) contest in Emmitsburg, followed by three games Saturday and Sunday (March 14-15) in Bethlehem.
