Mount Men's Lacrosse Welcomes VMI to Open Spring Break on Saturday

MOUNT UPDATE
After defeating the Towson Tigers for their first win of the 2020 campaign, the Mount men's lacrosse team has dropped their last two contests. Tuesday of this week, the Mountaineers fell to #12-ranked Georgetown 14-7 in the nation's capital. Brenden McCarthy led the Mountaineers with three points (2g, 1a) while Joe BethkeBrendan DoyleJared McMahonKelly Gouin, and Kadin Kightlinger each tallied a goal apiece. Dylan Furnback made 13 saves in net while Bryan McIntosh caused three turnovers and picked up three groundballs.

SCOUTING THE KEYDETS
VMI comes into Saturday's showdown having lost each of their first two games of the 2020 campaign to Manhattan (10-8) and #18-ranked Lehigh (14-11). The Keydets held a 6-5 lead at half over the Mountain Hawks but were unable to finish the job in the final two quarters. Ryan Perouty leads VMI with ten points (6g, 4a) while senior John Daniel has added four goals on the year. Bill Osteen has started both games in cage and has registered twelve goals against average with a .368 save percentage. AJ Krstulovic has gone 14-40 at the X for the Keydets.

INSIDE THE SERIES
The Mountaineers currently hold a 22-2 advantage over the Keydets in a series that dates back to April of 1991. The last time VMI was able to top the Mount was back in 2005 (16-14). Since then, Mount St. Mary's has won twelve straight in the series. Flashing back to last year, the Mount defeated VMI 12-6 to earn their first victory of the 2019 campaign. Chris DiPretoro put home four goals while Joe Bethke and Jared McMahon each netted a pair of goals in the win.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Saturday's matchup with VMI opens up a three-game homestand over spring break for the Mount men's lacrosse team. The slate includes a matchup with #20-ranked Richmond on Tuesday, March 3rd and Saturday, March 7th against Utah. The Spiders and Mountaineers game time is set for 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
