EMMITSBURG, Md. (Feb. 27, 2020) - Mount Baseball seeks their first win of the season as they welcome Maryland Eastern Shore to Emmitsburg for a doubleheader Friday.
The series was originally scheduled to be three games lasting into Saturday, but the third contest has been postponed due to impending bad weather. It will be rescheduled for Wednesday, April 22nd.
ABOUT THE MOUNT
The Mountaineers were swept by St. Bonaventure on the first weekend. Despite the outcome, the Mount received some solid performances on offense, led by Vaughn Parker II. The senior went 4-for-8 with five walks and a pair of doubles in his return from injury. Thomas Savastio drove in four of the team's 14 runs scored, while Thomas Bramley and Myles Nicholson smacked their first home runs of the year. Trevor Leamer carries a .700 on-base percentage after drawing six walks in 10 plate appearances.
Pitching struggled on opening weekend, surrendering 31 earned runs and 11 home runs for an ERA of 11.16. Three freshmen - Derek Huff, Brett Midkiff and Luke Pryor - had scoreless outings.
ABOUT THE SHORE
Maryland Eastern Shore comes to Frederick County with a 1-6 record. Their lone win came February 23 in a 10-3 triumph over Albany.
Senior Blake Coleman is their leading hitter, going 10-for-26 at the outset with four of those hits going for extra bases. Junior Brian Cordell is right behind Coleman with a .364 average and a pair of home runs.
The pitching staff carries a 4.66 ERA to Emmitsburg. The duo of Marty Tolson, Jr. and Dwayne Marshall anchor the rotation, with ERA's of 3.72 and 3.86, respectively. Marshall is the team's leader in strikeouts with eight.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES WITH THE HAWKS
Mount St. Mary's leads the all-time series, 32-13, but the Hawks have made efforts to draw the series closer in recent years. This includes three wins out of four meetings last season and a sweep of a doubleheader in Emmitsburg last April 3rd. The Hawks came back from 10 runs down to win the first game 15-12 before taking the nightcap, 4-3.

The Mount will spend spring break on the West Coast, with five games scheduled against San Francisco and UC Davis.
