MOUNT UPDATE
After coming off a win over Towson, the Mount men's lacrosse could not keep that momentum going as they fell 9-4 to UMBC on Saturday in their home opener. The Mountaineer offense never seemed to find their groove as they were held to only four goals with all of them coming in the first half (three first quarter). Brenden McCarthy led the Mountaineers with two goals and an assist while Joe Bethke and Matt Haggerty each added a goal apiece. Dylan Furnback made nine saves in net and Sam Stephan went 8-15 at the X with four ground balls. The Mount sits at 1-2 heading into Tuesday's showdown with Georgetown.
SCOUTING THE HOYAS
#12 Georgetown comes into Tuesday's matchup 3-0 after taking care of business in each of their first three games. The Hoyas offensive attack has been lethal so far this season as they have scored 14-plus goals in each of their first three contests including a season-high 25 against Fairfield this past weekend. Senior Jake Carraway leads the squad with 19 points (11g, 8a) while sophomore Dylan Watson has 15 goals in 2020 with 7 of them coming this past Saturday over Fairfield. Owen McElroy has started all three games in net for the Hoyas making 26 saves and posting 7.66 goals against average. James Reilly has been solid at the X going 35-51 (68.6%) with 21 groundballs. The three Hoya wins came over Lafayette (17-3), UMBC (14-8), and Fairfield (25-12).
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Hoyas currently hold a 19-5 edge over the Mountaineers in the all-time series between the two schools that dates back to April of 1989. Georgetown has won the past three matchups with the Mount's last win coming back in March of 2016. In 2016, the Mountaineers were able to go on the road and take down the Hoyas 11-8. Flashing back to last season, Mount St. Mary's held a one-goal lead over 20th-ranked Georgetown heading into the final period, but the Hoyas outscored the Mountaineers by a 4-1 margin in the final quarter to come out on top, 13-11. Five different Mount players registered multi-point efforts in the loss.
