STRATFORD, N.J. (Feb. 22, 2020) - The No. 14 nationally ranked Mount St. Mary's bowling team delivered a clutch 4-0 performance at day one of the NEC #3 meet at 30 Strikes Lanes in Stratford, N.J. The Mount picked up wins over St. Francis U, #25 nationally ranked Long Island, #13 Sacred Heart, and St. Francis-Brooklyn.
Sophomore Rebecca Dodson led the scoring pace for MSM in the setup position with a 19.64 baker frame average. Sophomore Danielle Milo was close behind her with a 19.38 baker frame average in the leadoff spot. Sophomores Tamera Stanton and Barbara Hawes also contributed nicely with baker frame averages of 18.69 and 18.64, respectively.

First up was a contest with the Red Flash, one of the two teams chasing the Mount for a final spot. It took six games but the Mountaineers prevailed to stay ahead of Saint Francis in the standings. The win was highlighted by a deciding 269 in game six. The win would push the Mountaineers two games above St. Francis in NEC standings, while also owning the tiebreaker.

The nationally ranked Sharks came into the weekend as the second place squad in the NEC ranks. On an extremely tough pair, and after going ahead 3-0 in a low scoring match, the Sharks began to find their rhythm and wheeled off three straight to force a deciding game seven. It came down to the final shot with Stanton getting 8-pins in the fill to secure a one-pin victory.

Mount's perfect day was put in jeopardy by the Pioneers, who earned two of the first three games. The Mountaineers dominated on the left lane, using a 785 to carry themselves to a comeback in games two, four and six. But a 190-187 advantage in game five on the right lane proved to be the difference in a 4-2 victory over #13 SHU.

The Mount made quick work of SFC 4-0 to officially clinch their spot at NEC Championships in March. A huge 247 second game highlighted the win.
The Mountaineers were the only team in the NEC to go undefeated on day one and will have two more matches tomorrow against #17 Fairleigh Dickinson and #10 Duquesne to conclude the regular season. The Mount will have the BYE to begin day two, with their match against FDU scheduled to start around 10:30 AM ET. As for the NEC Championships, those matches will take place March 20-22.
