Bowling wins Second Consecutive Tournament at Bowl for the Cure Traditionals

Douglasville, Pa. (February 1, 2020) The Mount St. Mary's women's bowling team captured their second straight tournament championship, winning the Bowl for the Cure Traditionals by a narrow 17-pins over second place Adelphi.
 
Sophomore Tamera Stanton led the way for the Mount, capturing All-Tournament Team honors as the third highest scorer in the field with a 1,049 five-game total (209.8 average). Sophomore Barbara Hawes also eclipsed the 200-mark in average, going 1,027 for a 205.4 average. Sophomore Danielle Milo (993 total, 198.6 average) and freshman Amanda Yeung (988, 197.6 average) also contributed nicely in the scoring effort.

The Mount kicked things off with a large margin of victory against Mercyhurst exceeding 200 pins. Milo (235) and Hawes (205) were key in helping the Mount get off to a solid start.
 
#13 Mount: 961 | Bloomfield: 793
 
The Mountaineers improved to 2-0 with another lopsided win, this time in a 961-793 blowout over Bloomfield. Hawes (222), Stanton (220), and Yeung (210) were instrumental in the win.
 
#13 Mount: 970 | Molloy: 896
 
MSM used a strong ninth and tenth frame to save what appeared to be low-scoring set, instead grinding out a comfortable lead against Molloy 970-896. Sophomore Ashley Santos led the team with a 222 game.
 
#13 Mount: 1,041 | Chestnut Hill: 961
 
The Mount rolled their highest set of the day against a hot Chestnut Hill team to secure a 1,041-961 victory in match four. Stanton (227), Yeung (223), and Milo (219) all eclipsed the 200-mark.
 
#13 Mount: 1,006 | #21 Adelphi: 1,063
 
The Mountaineers 14-game winning streak would come to an end against #21 nationally ranked Adelphi in a high scoring 1,063 – 1,006 loss. Hawes (222), Stanton (216), and Milo (213) were key in the losing effort. Despite the loss, the Mountaineers had a large enough pin advantage over Adelphi before the match to hang on for the overall tournament victory.
 
With the 4-1 outing, the Mountaineers improve their overall record on the season to 55-29, including 15-1 in their last two tournaments. Five more matches await tomorrow with the Bowl for the Cure Baker Tournament, beginning at 9:00 AM ET. The tournament can be streamed live on Facebook.com/MountBowling.
