EMMITSBURG, Md. (Jan. 31, 2020) – The Mount St. Mary's women's basketball team embarks on a four game road trip over the next two weekends, as the squad looks to hang on to second place in the Northeast Conference (NEC). First up is a Saturday matinee with Fairleigh Dickinson in Hackensack.

THE MATCHUP

Mount holds a 34-24 advantage over the FDU Knights and have won seven straight games. Their sweep last year included a 63-47 win at Rothman Center where Juliette Lawless made the difference with 22 points. Six weeks later in Emmitsburg, Jatarrikah Settle and Daly Sullivan split 28 points as the Mountaineers edged the Knights, 62-57.

Fairliegh Dickinson last defeated the Mount on January 24, 2016 - a 66-53 showing in North Jersey.

MOUNTAINEER REPORT

In a striking opposition to a road game two weeks later, Mount had to overcome a 15 point deficit to try and defeat Bryant. They managed to get a lead under two minutes, but the Bulldogs hit clutch shots in the waning moments to snap Mount's two game win streak.

Michaela Harrison scored 21 points in the loss to regain the team's lead in scoring average at 12.1 points per game. As a team, the Mountaineers are right behind Merrimack in field goal percentage at .400, and remain second in scoring offense, registered 67.2 points on average.

One bright spot from the defeat was the return of Kendall Bresee to game play. The redshirt junior missed five games due to an upper body injury and was leading the team in points, rebounds and assists at the time of her departure.

SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS

Under the tutelage of first-year head coach Angelika Szumilo, the Knights are enjoying a renaissance. A victory over the Mountaineers will match their conference win total from a year ago at five.

FDU relies on their forwards for offensive success. Junior Morgan Stanley leads her team in points per game with 12.3, and senior Lauren Francillon leads in rebounding at 7.1 boards a contest while also averaging double figures with 10.5 points a game. Guard Rachael Niles makes several contributions, averaging 8.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and a team-best three assists.

The Knights have earned wins against perennial contenders Saint Francis U and Sacred Heart, but are coming into Saturday on a two-game losing streak.

LOOKING AHEAD

Three more road contest await the Mountianeers. They will travel to Sacred Heart Monday (Feb. 3), St. Francis Brooklyn next Saturday (Feb. 8) and Long Island next Monday (Feb. 10).
