Mount's Comeback Effort Finished Off by Bryant in Closing Minutes

Box Score

EMMITSBURG, Md. (Jan. 25, 2020) - Mount St. Mary's fought all the way back from a 15 point halftime deficit and came within a minute and a half of capturing victory from the jaws of defeat. But the Bryant Bulldogs hit their shots down the stretch and sent the Mount's crowd home unsatisfied in a 72-67 final at Knott Arena.

Michaela Harrison led all scorers with 21 points, shooting 7-for-17 and hitting a season-high six three pointers. Bridget Birkhead obtained double figures on four triples, and Jatarrikah Settle added 10 points with seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Bryant (5-12, 3-3 NEC) led for almost the entire game, bolting out to a 6-0 run to start the game. Mount (10-9, 5-2 NEC) countered with a 6-0 spurt, tying the score on a Kayla Agentowicz floater. The Bulldogs regained control by scoring nine of the next 12 points to lead 15-9 after one.

An 8-0 run for Mount kicked off the second quarter, punctuated by a three from Aryna Taylor. Leads traded back and forth to a 21-21 deadlock. Then the Bulldogs went off, finishing the half with 15 straight points.

The Mountaineers began the third quarter on a 7-0 run as they worked to chip away at Bryant's lead. The Bulldogs held their own, but the Mount closed the gap to seven points. Kendall Bresee inspired the Mount to begin the fourth with a successful and one to kick off a run that cut the deficit to two. The contest stayed within two possessions until Birkhead splashed home a trey with 3:01 left for the first tie since 21-21.

Bryant got a layup to take their lead back, but Harrison took a pass from Taylor Addison on the wing and put it home for a 64-63 Mount lead under 90 seconds. But on the very next possession, Bryant's Sydney Holloway scored on the next play that secured the win for the Bulldogs.

Four Bulldogs scored 10 or more, led by Masey Zegarowski with 15.

Mount St. Mary's will head on the road for the next four games, beginning with Fairleigh Dickinson next Saturday (Feb. 1).
