EMMITSBURG, Md. (Jan. 24, 2020) – Mount St. Mary's women's basketball heads into Winter Homecoming seeking their third straight win, a 6-1 Northeast Conference (NEC) start and a season sweep of the Bryant Bulldogs Saturday.

THE MATCHUP

The first repeat matchup of the 2019-2020 season, Mount and Bryant challenged each other on January 11th, with the Mountaineers prevailing, 76-70. The win snapped a three game win series streak for the Bulldogs and pushed Mount to a 3-0 start in NEC play at the time. Bryant still leads the overall head-to-head, 12-10.

MOUNTAINEER REPORT

Mount St. Mary's is off to their hottest start in two decades, leading to a second place spot in the conference standings. They lead the NEC in field goal percentage with a .400 clip, and are second in scoring output at 67.2 points per game.

Monday's 69-60 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn marked the first time this season the Mount achieved victory without eclipsing 70 points. Bridget Birkhead led all Mountaineers with 16 points and Kayla Agentowicz tied a career high by securing eight rebounds.

Mount shot 44.4 percent from the field Monday, just below their 46.6 percent accomplishment the last time they played Bryant. The Mountaineers are 9-0 when shooting better than 40 percent in a game.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS

Bryant rebounded from their loss to the Mountaineers with a victory over Long Island. The Bulldogs stand seventh in the NEC with a 2-3 record and are 4-12 overall. Guard Nicole Gallagher leads with 9.8 points per game, and senior Sydney Holloway is just shy of a double-double average with 9.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per contest.

Two weeks ago against the Mount, four Bulldogs reached double figures, but were hindered by a 15 point deficit at halftime. They rallied to cut that total down to two on several occasions, but never led at any point in the game.

LOOKING AHEAD

This game concludes this homestand and the Mountaineers will hit the road over the next two weekends. They will travel to Fairleigh Dickinson next Saturday (Feb. 1) and Sacred Heart next Monday (Feb. 3).
