Mount St. Mary's Baseball Battles NEC Rival LIU Brooklyn This Weekend

Due to the rain in the forecast, there has been a change in the baseball series to be played at LIU this weekend. Friday's game has been cancelled, now the two team's will play a double header on Saturday followed by the series finale on Sunday.

MOUNT UPDATE
Mount St. Mary's baseball dropped two games to Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday afternoon at E.T. Straw Family Stadium. The Mountaineers squandered a big lead in the first game and were topped by the Hawks 15-12. In the second game, the Mount was clipped 4-3 by Eastern Shore thanks to a late run in the top of the seventh.

In game one, Myles NicholsonAlex Kriss, and Patrick Causa all recorded multi-hit games in the top three spots in the lineup for Mount St. Mary's. Trevor Leamer and CJ Kozorosky also tabbed two hits each in the loss. Kriss and Leamer each hit a home run for the Mountaineers and combined for five runs batted in. Kriss also picked up his team leading 11th double of the season in his 2-for-3 game. Andrew Dameron pitched a solid 5.2 innings in the start while he only allowed one earned run on just five hits and struck out four. 

In game two, Alex Kriss and Trevor Leamer recorded the only two runs batted in, and two of the three runs scored for the Mount in the loss. Sebastian Mieses tabbed the other run scored for the Mount while Zack CostelloRyan Haddaway, and CJ Kozorosky added the other three hits in the game. Noah Kirkland pitched a strong five innings for the Mountaineers while he only allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out five.

ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS
The LIU Brooklyn baseball team earned a 10-1 win over Hofstra on Wednesday afternoon. The Blackbirds offense recorded 13 hits in the win and its pitching staff held the Pride to just three hits at University Field. Nine different batters contributed a hit for LIU, including three multi-hit showings. Senior Luiny Monegro recorded a career-high three hits and four runs batted in. Sophomore James Steindl picked up his first career home run and a pair of hits. Senior Andrew Smith added a pair of hits to go along with three runs scored. The offense was slow to get going through the first three frames as LIU's Chris Buehler and Hofstra's Mark Faello gave up just three combined hits.

Mount St. Mary's and LIU Brooklyn have met 96 times in series history with the Blackbirds holding a 62-34 advantage, including a 27-19 mark in Emmitsburg. LIU Brooklyn owns a 34-14 record on their home field against the Mountaineers. The Mount and the Blackbirds split a four game series in at E.T Straw Family Stadium last season.
