Hanover, Md. (April 16, 2019) - The Mount St. Mary's baseball team collected 13 hits but fell to Coppin State 13-10 on Tuesday afternoon at Joe Cannon Stadium. Freshman Ryan Fisher led the Mount offense after he hit 3-for-5 with three runs batted in, a double on the day, and a stolen base on the day.

Fisher and Thomas Savastio combined for six hits, three RBI, three doubles, two runs scored, and a stolen base. With another multi-hit game, Savastio now has seven straight multi-hit games for the Mountaineers. The recently named Northeast Conference Co-Rookie of the Week, Thomas Bramley, hit his second career home run just a couple of days after he hit his first career homer. Trevor Leamer and A.J. Narcise each tabbed multi-hit games with two runs scored, and one RBI in the loss. The Mountaineers stole six bases on the Golden Eagles in the loss, Costello (2), Myles Nicholson, Fisher, Leamer, and Narcise. Ryan Florio and Andrew Malone pitched 2.1 shutout innings of work while they each struck out one batter.

Coppin State (19-14) grabbed an early 3-0 lead before the Mount (11-24) scored two runs of their own that made it a 3-2 game after three innings of play. Nazier McIlwain and Drew Thomas picked up RBI singles while Derek Lohr tabbed a RBI double for the Golden Eagles' first three runs of the game in the bottom of the third. 

In the top of the second, Thomas Savastio led off with a double to right center and advanced to second after Thomas Bramley worked a walk. The next batter, Zack Costello reached base on a fielder's choice that moved Savastio to third base on the play. Costello stole second base and Savastio came running home to cross the plate off of a throwing error for Mount St. Mary's first run of the game. The next batter, Trevor Leamer, beat out an RBI single to second base that scored Costello for the second run scored in the inning.

Coppin State and the Mountaineers battled back and forth over the next three innings and the Mount took a 10-9 lead into the bottom of the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, the Golden Eagles scored four runs to take a 13-10 lead and held Mount St. Mary's scoreless in the next three innings to preserve the win.

In the fourth inning, A.J. Narcise hit a RBI double to right field that scored Bryant Shives, and later in the inning, Ryan Fisher tabbed a two RBI single up the middle that plated Narcise and Myles Nicholson. The Mount added four more runs in the top of the fifth frame off of a Zack Costello RBI double, a Shives RBI groundout, an error after Narcise reached first base, and a RBI single from Fisher for his third RBI of the game. Thomas Bramley pushed the 10th run of the game a crossed the board for the Mountaineers in the top of the sixth after he hit a solo home run over the left field wall.

The scoring for Coppin State was highlighted by a two RBI single from Justin Banks in the fifth inning, a RBI triple in the sixth from Ryan McWilliam, a go-ahead two-run home run from Connor Walker in the sixth, and another RBI single from Banks in the sixth.

Justin Banks and Connor Walker led the Golden Eagles offense after they combined for six RBI, five hits, four runs scored, and a home run in the win. Derek Lohr, Drew Thomas, and Ryan McWilliam each added two hits in the four, five, and six spots of the lineup. Lucas Richards and Corey Treyes pitched a scoreless last three innings of play and held Mount St. Mary's to just two hits while they struck out four batters.

Lucas Richards (1-0) recorded the win for Coppin State while Corey Treyes (5) earned his fifth save of season after he shut the Mount down in the ninth inning with three strike outs. Noah Kirkland (0-1) picked up the loss for Mount St. Mary's in his 10th appearance of the year.

The Mountaineers return home for a seven game home stretch beginning on Thursday, April 18 at 3 PM with the first game of a three game series against Wagner.
