Mount St. Mary's heads to Coppin State for a mid-week doubleheader on Tuesday. The Mount swept Coppin State in a doubleheader at home earlier this season.
MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount dropped both ends of a Northeast Conference doubleheader at LIU Brooklyn on Saturday. The Mount lost the opening game, 6-3, before falling in the second game, 8-1. Kaylee Stoner went 4-for-8 in the doubleheader, stretching her hit streak to nine games in the process. LIU scored eight unearned runs in the two games. Shelbee Holcomb leads the Mount with a .421 average while Stoner is second on the team with a .333 mark. Katie Olson (3-3, 2.85 ERA) and Amanda Berkley (8-13, 3.23 ERA) lead the pitching staff.
ABOUT THE EAGLES: Coppin State enters Tuesday's twinbill with a 5-24 overall record and a 3-6 mark in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Eagles have lost five in a row, including a three-game MEAC series at Norfolk State over the weekend. Megan Narvaez leads Coppin State with a .292 average while Cayla Brown is hitting .258. Madison Didion is 4-12 with a 6.30 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 84.1 innings of work.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES VS. COPPIN STATE: Mount St. Mary's holds a 36-5 lead in the all-time series with Coppin State that began in 1993. The Mountaineers have won the past 14 matchups between the two teams, including a doubleheader sweep on March 26. The Mount is 13-5 all-time on the road against Coppin State, and has won six in a row at the Coppin State Softball Complex.
FIRST MEETING THIS SEASON: Mount St. Mary's scored 30 runs while belting out 27 hits in a doubleheader sweep of visiting Coppin State at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on campus on March 26. The Mount erupted with a season-high 22 runs in a 22-4 victory in the opening game of the doubleheader. In game two, the Mount posted an 8-0 victory in six innings. Freshman Kaia Bonshock went 5-for-7 with two doubles, a home run and seven RBI in the two games while leading hitter Shelbee Holcomb went 5-for-7 with three runs scored and four RBI in the twinbill.
