EMMITSBURG, Md. (Dec. 13, 2019) – The Mount St. Mary's women's basketball team is looking to put behind their most recent loss to Lehigh this past Sunday (Dec. 8) by bouncing back against Maryland Eastern Shore in a Saturday matinee in Princess Anne. In the defeat, the Mount surrendered a six point lead with 18 seconds remaining as the Mountain Hawks buried three triples and a layup to come back, 66-65.

THE MATCHUP

This is the 17th meeting between the Mountaineers and Hawks since 1980. Mount St. Mary's took the first 12 meetings and lead overall 14-3. Maryland Eastern Shore earned their first win in the series in 2014, and won the last meeting in 2018 by an 86-73 final at Knott Arena.

MOUNTAINEER REPORT

Mount St. Mary's went 1-1 this past week and are 4-4 on the season. Kendall Bresee led the Mount in both games last week, and earned the Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week for her efforts. She finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds propelled the Mount to an 81-75 win over Loyola Friday (Dec. 6). Against Lehigh, she finished with her second consecutive double-double at 17 points, 10 rebounds and came within three assists of the team's first triple-double in 29 years.

Bresee leads all Mountaineers in points per game (13.8), rebounds per game (7.4) and assists per game (3.5). Michaela Harrison leads in steals with 2.5 per contest, and Rebecca Lee in blocks with 1.8 per contest.

The team is holding a tie for third place in the NEC with Robert Morris, and stands in the top half of the conference for almost every statistical category.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS

Maryland Eastern Shore comes into the game with a 2-7 mark, and are looking for their first Division I victory. The Hawks defeated Wesley College in the season opener (Nov. 5) and Greensboro College (Dec. 3). Like Mount, their last contest was also this past Sunday - a 48-39 defeat at Old Dominion.

Coached by Fred Batchelor - who is in his 16th year at the helm - the Hawks are rebuilding following an appearance in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) semifinals last year. They lost three of five starters and their sixth woman from the bench. Junior Amanda Carney leads the team with 10.6 points a game, coming largely off of three pointers, which account for 22 of her 29 shots made. Carney also leads in rebounding at 5.1 a game. Fellow junior Bairesha Gill-Miles is a former MEAC Rookie of the Year who is right behind Carney on the stat sheet with 9.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.

LOOKING AHEAD

Following this game will be a grueling three-game, three-day stretch at the Anne Donovan Classic in Norfolk, Va. The Mount will face Hampton Thursday (Dec. 19), Richmond Friday (Dec. 20) and Old Dominion Saturday (Dec. 21).
