EMMITSBURG, Md. (Nov. 15, 2019) – Mount St. Mary's women's basketball looks to keep the momentum off a 94-40 win over Frostburg State when they take on the Towson Tigers Saturday (Nov. 16) at SECU Arena.

THE MATCHUP

The Mountaineers and Tigers have met 25 times prior to Saturday's meeting, with the Mount winning 14. The history of this intrastate rivalry has taken many twists and turns, beginning in 1977 when both teams were part of the Maryland Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (MAIAW), including a face off in the 1978 MAIAW Third Place game - a 69-65 victory for the Tigers. After a hiatus, the teams have had on again, off again meetings since the Mount's move to Division I in the late 80's. Mount took the victory last November 24th at home 87-78, behind 30 points from Michaela Harrison

MOUNTAINEER REPORT

The Mountaineers (1-2) picked up their first victory and etched the team into the record books with the 94-40 win against the Bobcats Monday (Nov. 11). It was their largest margin of victory since 1986, as the Mount hit the third-most three pointers and registered the ninth-most steals in a game in the program's history.

Four players reached double figures during the contest, with Harrison and Bridget Birkhead leading the way, earning 17 points each. Delaney Connors finished with a career high nine rebounds.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

Towson is the reigning champion from the Colonial Athletic Association – their first in team history. The Tigers come in at 0-3, but have faced challenging opponents in Penn State and a Southern California swing against San Diego State and San Diego. Head Coach Diane Richardson is embarking on her third season at the helm, and will look to score via three players who are averaging double figures per game – Nukiya Mayo (18.0), Kionna Jeter (16.7) and Q. Murray (11.0).

LOOKING AHEAD

The Mount returns home Wednesday (Nov. 20) for a 7 p.m. tipoff against UMBC.
