EMMITSBURG, Md. (Nov. 11, 2019) - The Mount St. Mary's Women's Basketball team tips off their 13-game home slate for 2019-20 Monday with a matchup against Frostburg State.
THE MATCHUP
Monday's matchup renews a series between the Mountaineers and Bobcats that has been dormant for 37 years. The teams met regularly when both were members of the Maryland Association for Intercollege Athletics for Women (MAIAW), with the Mount winning 11 of 13 games. On February 11, 1982, Mount won by an 89-57 final, then the two teams moved in different directions. Frostburg State now competes in Division II's Mountain East Conference.
MOUNTAINEER REPORT
Mount St. Mary's returns home after two tough matchups versus Top 25 teams. The Mountaineer defense held #13 Kentucky to 33.3 percent from the floor, but were held to 27 percent themselves in a 67-44 defeat. Two days later, the #24 Indiana Hoosiers shot over 50 percent in the half to take control of the game early. Mount won the second half but Indiana got the victory, 75-52. Jatarrikah Settle led the team in Kentucky with 10 points and six rebounds, and Aryna Taylor had a big game against the Hoosiers with 15 points, eight rebounds and five steals.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Frostburg State is also 0-2 to begin the year following two defeats in the Mountain East/PSAC Challenge this past weekend. The Bobcats lost to East Stroudsburg 55-48 and Shippensburg 80-66. Amanda Emory is averaging a double-double with 10.5 points and 11.5 rebounds through the first two games, and Morgan Dombrowski is their leading scorer with 15 a contest.
LOOKING AHEAD
This game begins three straight for the Mount within the state of Maryland. After Monday's contest the team will head to Towson Saturday (Nov. 16) and play UMBC at home the following Wednesday (Nov. 20).
