The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's cross country teams return to action this weekend with athletes headed to both the Princeton Invitational and the Gettysburg Invitational.

MOUNT UPDATE:  Erin Jaskot and Maddie Kole each posted top 20 finishes to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's cross country team at the Paul Short Run on Saturday.  Will Merritt recorded the top finish to headline the men's performances.  The Mount men's cross country team was competing in the Gold Race, the top division at the Paul Short Run this year.  Merritt traversed the eight-kilometer course in a time of 24:50.5 to finish 139th in the field of 380 runners to lead the Mountaineers.  The women's team was competing in the Brown Race, the second-highest division at the meet, with Jaskot and Kole posting top 20 finishes to lead the Mountaineers.  Jaskot placed 15th overall with a time of 21:33.4 while Kole was right behind in 17th place with a mark of 21:34.0 for the six-kilometer course.  For a full recap, click HERE.

MOUNT MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM RANKED 14th in REGION:  The Mount St. Mary's men's cross country team is ranked 14th in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Region rankings.  The Mount has been ranked every week this season while this year's appearance in the polls is the first for the Mountaineers since being ranked four weeks during the 2011 season.  Princeton tops the Mid-Atlantic region rankings followed by Georgetown, Penn, Villanova, Temple, Navy, Penn State, Pittsburgh, LaSalle, Lehigh, Saint Joseph's, Bucknell, Monmouth, Mount St. Mary's and Duquesne.

NEC WEEKLY AWARD WINNERS:  Will Merritt was named the NEC Cross Country Athlete of the Week on October 9 after his solid performance at the Paul Short Run in the Gold Race.   Earlier this season, Maddie Kole (Athlete), Grant West (Rookie) and Theresa Long (Rookie) won NEC weekly awards.

UP NEXT:  The Mountaineers will send athletes to the Lebanon Valley Last Chance to Run Fast Invitational on October 25 before the team heads to the Northeast Conference Championships on November 2.
