Bethlehem, Pa. (October 5, 2019)--Erin Jaskot and Maddie Kole each posted top 20 finishes to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's cross country team at the Paul Short Run on Saturday. Will Merritt paced the top finish to headline the men's performances.
The Mount men's cross country team was competing in the Gold Race, the top division at the Paul Short Run this year. Merritt traversed the eight-kilometer course in a time of 24:50.5 to finish 139th in the field of 380 runners to lead the Mountaineers. Isaac Kole was the Mount's second-best performer, finishing 158th with a time of 24:55.3. Rounding out the Mount's top five were Mitchel Wileczek (241st, 25:25.2), Grant West (313th, 26:00.7) and Jonah Smith (329th, 26:13.6).
In the team standings, the Mount was 40th in the field of 44 teams in the competitive Gold Race.
The women's team was competing in the Brown Race, the second-highest division at the meet, with Jaskot and Kole posting top 20 finishes to lead the Mountaineers. Jaskot placed 15th overall with a time of 21:33.4 while Kole was right behind in 17th place with a mark of 21:34.0 for the six-kilometer course. Theresa Long was 137th with a time of 22:55.0 with Alexandra Kay placing 157th in the field of 328 runners with a time of 23:06.0. Destiny Boone (208th, 23:44.2) and Adria Pirozzi (209th, 23:44.5) had back-to-back finishes to round out the Mount's top six.
In the women's team standings, the Mount finished18th in the field of 42 teams.
The Mount cross country teams return to action on October 19 with runners headed to both the Princeton Invitational and the Gettysburg Invitational.
