Box Score 2 Emmitsburg, Md. (April 9, 2017)--Mount St. Mary's scored 19 runs while collecting 25 hits in a doubleheader sweep of visiting Fairleigh Dickinson at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on Sunday afternoon. Morgan Alisauckas, Marian Ruf, Rachel Heinze and Lindsay Heinze combined for 18 hits in the two games to pace the Mountaineer offense. The Mount improves to 12-20 on the year and 3-1 in Northeast Conference play.
Game 1: Mount St. Mary's 12, Fairleigh Dickinson 7
Morgan Alisauckas went 5-for-5 while Rachel Heinze and Lindsay Heinze each homered to lead Mount St. Mary's to a 12-7 win in the opening game of the doubleheader.
Aliisauckas was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle as she finished with two doubles, a triple and four RBI among her five hits on the day. Lindsay Heinze went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI while Ruf was 2-for-3 at the plate in the victory.
Sam Lichtner (8-5) picked up the win, allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts in four innings. Freshman Jordan Weaver preserved the win by tossing three scoreless innings of relief with six strikeouts.
Mount St. Mary's scored three times in the bottom of the first to take the lead. Alisauckas started the scoring with a clutch two-out double off the left-field fence to score Kaylee Stoner. A Fairleigh Dickinson (2-21, 0-6 NEC) error allowed two more runs to score for the Mount in the frame.
After the Knights got a run back in the second, the Mount struck for five runs in the bottom of the inning to stretch the lead to 8-1. Lindsay Heinze walked with bases loaded to start the scoring, and Alisauckas followed with a two-run double. The Mount added a run on a wild pitch ahead of a Ruf RBI single.
Rachel Heinze hit a solo home run to center in the third to make it 9-1, her team-leading ninth home run of the year. After Lindsay Heinze singled, Alisauckas tripled to right center field, and she came home on the play on a throwing error to push the advantage to 11-1.
Fairleigh Dickinson got back into the game with six runs in the top of the fourth, collecting seven hits in the inning.
Lindsay Heinze's solo home run, her fourth of the season, to lead off the bottom of the fifth closed out the scoring.
Game 2: Mount St. Mary's 7, Fairleigh Dickinson 0
Marian Ruf tossed a shutout while going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a home run and four runs batted in to lead Mount St. Mary's to a 7-0 win in game two.
Rachel Heinze started scoring when she ripped a double just inside the third-base bag to score Stoner for the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. Shea McFarland singled to open the second, and Ruf followed with a blast to center field to give the Mount a 3-0 lead.
Ruf's two-run double in the third stretched the advantage to 5-0. Rachel Heinze singled home a run in the sixth while Alisauckas walked with the bases loaded in the inning as well to round out the scoring.
Ruf scattered six hits while striking out four to record the Mount's first shutout of the season. Rachel Heinze went 3-for-4 in the game while Stoner was 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot.
Mount St. Mary's is back in action on Wednesday, April 12, with a 4:00 p.m. home game with Georgetown at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on campus.
