Mount St. Mary's Softball Splits Doubleheader with Central Connecticut

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 14, 2017)--Sam Lichtner tossed a four-hit shutout to lead Mount St. Mary's to a 1-0 win over Central Connecticut in the opening game of a doubleheader at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on Friday afternoon.  The Blue Devils earned a 11-1 win in five innings in game two.

Sam Lichtner's complete-game shutout lifted the Mount (14-21, 4-2 NEC) to a 1-0 win in the opening game of the doubleheader.  The senior scattered four hits while striking out a pair to improve to 9-5 on the season.

The Mount scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Kaylee Stoner hustled out a double to short right-center field to start the rally.  Stoner moved to third on a wild pitch, and she came home to score on Rachel Heinze's bloop single just over the third baseman.

Heinze went 2-for-2 at the plate to pace the Mount offense.

The Blue Devils split the doubleheader with an 11-1 victory in game two.  CCSU (9-19, 4-6 NEC) scored three times in the first, and sealed the win with six runs in the top of the fourth.

CCSU scored three times in the top of the first off Mount starter Marian Ruf.  The Blue Devils added to the lead on a two-run homer by Alexis Debrosse in the top of the second.

The Mount got their lone run of the game in the bottom of the second when Morgan Alisauckas connected for a solo home run.

Central Connecticut scored six times in the top of the fourth to secure the win.  Alex Casanas held the Mount to just three hits in five innings to pick up the win.

Mount St. Mary's is back in action tomorrow with a 1:30 p.m. NEC doubleheader against Saint Francis U at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on campus.
