Box Score 2 Clearwater, Fla. (March 10, 2017)--The Mount St. Mary's softball team rallied for a 3-2 win over Yale after falling to Western Michigan, 3-0, earlier in the day on Friday.
In the Mount's come-from-behind win over Yale, Marian Ruf tossed a complete-game, allowing one earned run while compiling seven strikeouts in the game. Ruf's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth drove in the go-ahead run as well.
Yale (0-6) took the lead on a Carlin Hagmaier solo home run in the top of the second inning. The Mountaineers (4-10) evened the score in the fourth when Lindsay Heinze doubled and Morgan Alisauckas tripled to knot the game at 1-1.
The Bulldogs took the lead in the top of the sixth on a Mount error. In the bottom of the inning, Rachel Heinze belted a solo home run to lead off the frame, giving Heinze a team-high four home runs this season. After consecutive outs, Alisauckas reached second base on a Yale error, and she gave way to pinch runner Lexi Donovan. Ruf followed with a single to left field to plate Donovan with the go-ahead run.
Lindsay Heinze finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate.
In the opening game of the day, the Mountaineers fell to Western Michigan, 3-0. The Broncos scored three times in the bottom of the third to secure the win.
Starting pitcher Sam Lichtner tossed a complete game, allowing all three runs on a bases clearing double in the third inning. Lichtner had a pair of strikeouts while giving up six hits.
For the Mountaineers, Shea McFarland and Lindsay Heinze each had a pair of hits in the loss.
