Box Score Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. (January 21, 2017) – Kayla Agentowicz, Juliette Lawless and Mikal Johnson registered 12 points apiece to lead Mount St. Mary's University to a 62-44 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon inside the Pope Physical Education Center.
Agentowicz led the Mount in the second half, scoring all 12 of her points in the final pair of periods, while Johnson tallied all 12 of hers in the opening half behind 4-of-6 shooting from long range. Johnson also added a team-high eight rebounds in the contest. Lawless' 12 points marked a new career high for the sophomore, while she also tallied a team-high four assists.
Olivia Levey was the only Terrier to reach double-figures, pacing St. Francis Brooklyn with 13 points, while Maria Palarino chipped in with nine points.
The first quarter went back and forth, featuring seven lead changes and three ties. Ashlee White closed out the period with a pair of tough drives and finishes to give the Mount a 17-14 lead heading into the second. Levey paced the Terriers with nine of her 13 points in the frame.
The Mount built its largest lead of the half following a 9-2 run midway through the second. Johnson hit three of her four three-pointers during the stretch, including a pair to cap off the rally. Johnson's second three-pointer during the run, a deep one from the wing, extended the Mount's lead to four. Katrice Dickson stole it on the ensuing SFBK possession and worked it around to Johnson, who knocked down another three to push the Mountaineer advantage to 29-22 at the 3:43 mark.
Alex Delaney responded with a three on the other end for the Terriers, and Samantha Keltos knocked down a jumper in the final minutes to cut the Mount's lead to 30-27 at the break.
The Terriers were able to trim the Mount's lead to just one, 34-33, at the 7:11 mark of the third, but the Mount scored the next six points behind four from Agentowicz to pad the advantage back to seven, 40-33. The Mount pushed the lead to eight a minute later, but SFBK answered with the final four points of the quarter to trim the deficit to 41-37 heading into the fourth.
The Mount went on a 9-2 run midway through the fourth to grab an 11-point advantage, its largest to that point. After a pair of free throws from Lawless, Dickson knocked down a jumper and Agentowicz followed with a traditional three-pointer play to make it 48-39. Agentowicz stole the ball on the ensuing Terrier possession and hit a layup to push it to 50-39 with 6:20 remaining.
The Terriers weren't able to close the gap to less than 11 the rest of the way as Mount St. Mary's went on for the 62-44 victory. With the win, the Mount improves to 5-13 overall and 3-4 in NEC play, while St. Francis Brooklyn dropps to 5-13 and 3-4 in conference.
The Mount went 18-for-45 (.400) in the contest and 5-for-13 (.385) from downtown, compared to 18-for-53 (.340) from the field and just 5-for-24 (.208) from three-point land for the Terriers. The Mount forced 21 SFBK turnovers and scored 30 points off turnovers in the contest.
Mount St. Mary's is back in action on Monday (January 23) at Sacred Heart for a rematch of last year's first round playoff matchup. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., and action can be seen at NECFrontRow.com.
