MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount posted a 19-16 win at Sacred Heart on Saturday to improve to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the Northeast Conference. Spencer Smith matched a career-high with four goals in the high-scoring game. Bubba Johnson, Justin Gosnell and Chris DiPretoro each added hat tricks in the win. The Mount scored six goals in the second quarter and eight more in the third to take a 16-7 lead heading to the fourth. The Pioneers rallied to cut the deficit to 17-14, but Mike Moynihan and Smith each scored to help the Mount steal the victory.
ABOUT THE BISON: Bucknell edged Patriot League leader Army, 8-7, last Saturday to move to 6-4 overall and 3-3 in the league. Christian Klipstein made 14 saves to pace the Bison to the win. Will Sands, Tommy O'Connor and Sean Doyle lead the Bucknell offense. Sands leads the team with 23 goals and 36 points while O'Connor has 18 goals and 30 points. Doyle has 12 goals and a team-best 15 assists. Klipstein has started all 10 games in goal, posting a 9.52 GAA and a .557 save percentage. Bucknell is 2-2 at home this season, and owns a 11-10 win over NEC member Bryant on Feb. 14.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES: Bucknell holds a 14-2 lead in the all-time series that began in 1996. The Mountaineers have won two of the past three matchups, including a 12-11 win at home last season. The Mountaineers are 0-8 all-time on the road against the Bison.
LAST YEAR'S MEETING: Bubba Johnson scored two of his career-high four goals in the fourth quarter to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse team to a 12-11 comeback victory over Bucknell last season. Goalkeeper Frankie McCarthy posted a career high 19 saves against the Bison as well. Six different players scored goals for the Mount with Mark Hojnoski finishing with three goals and two assists, and Justin Gosnell notching the second of his two goals with 4:34 left in what turned out to be the game winner. On the other end, Will Sands carried the Bucknell offense with five goals, and David Dickson dished out four assists in the loss.
MOUNT OFFENSE EXPLODES FOR 19 GOALS: The Mount scored a season-high 19 goals in its win over Sacred Heart on Saturday. The 19 goals are the most by a Mount team since a 22-5 home win over Wagner on April 23, 2011. The Mount had four players record hat tricks in the game as Spencer Smith netted a team-high four goals while Chris DiPretoro, Justin Gosnell and Bubba Johnson each had three goals. Seven players had three or more points in the game.
SMITH STEPS UP: Spencer Smith stepped into the starting lineup for the Mount at Sacred Heart and responded with four goals and an assist for a career high five points. Smith's four goals matched his career best set against Delaware last season. Smith has five goals this season.
ALL-AROUND PERFORMER: Freshman Jack Mangan has been an all-around performer for the Mountaineers this season. He leads the Mount with 11 caused turnovers while adding 27 ground balls, second on the squad. Mangan has scored four goals and added three assists for seven points as well this season.
