MOUNT UPDATE: Mount St. Mary's dropped a 12-6 decision to Hobart on Saturday at Waldron Family Stadium. Evan Gormley scored a pair of goals while Ryan Lamon had a goal and an assist in the loss. The Mount held a 40-31 advantage in shots an a 29-20 edge in ground balls in the game. However, Hobart goalkeeper Jackson Brown made 13 saves while the Mount managed just 20 of its 40 shots on goal in the game. Gormley tied the game at 4-4 early in the second half, but Hobart rattled off the next six goals of the game to earn the victory. The Mount has dropped three games in a row to fall to 5-6 on the season.
ABOUT BRYANT: Bryant lost a heart-breaker at Saint Joseph's, 10-9, in overtime on Saturday in a battle for the top spot in the Northeast Conference. Leading 9-8 in the final minute, Saint Joseph's was able to get the equalizing goal with just 10 seconds left in regulation. The Hawks then scored the overtime winner. Gunnar Waldt made 11 saves in the game while Shane Morrell, Ryan Sharpe and Tucker James each had two goals in the game. James leads the Bulldogs with 42 points on 24 goals and 18 assists this season. Morrell has 24 goals and 33 points while Sharpe has 20 goals and 28 points. Waldt has started all 11 games in goal, posting a 53.3 save percentage and a 9.84 goals against average. Bryant is 3-3 at home this season.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES: Bryant holds a 6-2 lead in the all-time series with the Mount that began in 2009. The Mountaineers are 0-2 all-time at Bryant, falling 9-7 in Smithfield, R.I., in 2014. Last year, the Mount fell to Bryant, 8-6, at Waldron Family Stadium. The Mount's last win in the series was a 10-9 home victory in 2013.
LAST YEAR'S MEETING:
Mount St. Mary's saw its comeback attempt fall short in an 8-6 home loss to Bryant last year. The Bulldogs scored four times in the opening quarter to take an 4-0 advantage. Mark Hojnoski and Justin Gosnell scored for the Mountaineers in the second quarter to make it 4-2 at the half. The teams exchanged goals from there, with the Mount's Christian Durham cutting the deficit to 7-6 with 7:51 left in the game. The Mount's Robert Jones hit the post with 5:26 left, and Bryant was able to secure the win on a Collins Gantz goal with 19 seconds left in the contest. Hojnoski had a pair of goals in the game for the Mount while Tucker James, Shane Morrell and Brian Schlansker each had two goals for Bryant. Gunnar Waldt made 11 saves in the win while Matt Vierheller made nine saves for the Mount.
