Box Score 2 Emmitsburg, Md. (March 29, 2016) -- Mount St. Mary's University dropped a pair of games in a doubleheader against Brown on Tuesday in non-conference softball action at Our Lady of the Meadows Field. The Mount was edged, 2-1, in the opening game, before falling by a 13-2 final in game two.
GAME 1: Brown 2, Mount St. Mary's 1
The Mount jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Rachel Gavigan. Rachel Heinze led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a sac bunt by Lindsay Heinze. Gavigan then hit a sharp grounder that deflected off the first baseman's glove, allowing Rachel Heinze to score and give the Mount the one-run advantage.
Brown evened the score at 1-1 in the top of the sixth on an RBI single to left field by Yeram Park, and the Bears struck again in the next inning, as a single up the middle from Annie Scarangello pushed acrosse the go-ahead run.
Katie Orona worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh to close out the 2-1 victory for Brown as she picked up her fifth win of the season.
Orona allowed one run on five hits and struck out four to pick up the victory, while Mount starter Sam Lichtner struck out five and yielded just two runs on seven hits in seven innings of work.
GAME 2: Brown 13, Mount St. Mary's 2
Mount St. Mary's scored first for the second consecutive game as a Shea McFarland single to left field knocked in Rachel Heinze to give the Mount the early lead in the first inning. Brown answered in the second on a two-run double by Christina Andrews as the Bears jumped in front, 2-1.
Brown added another run in the fifth to push its lead to 3-1, before tallying 10 combined runs in the next two innings for insurance. Sarah Syrop registered the big blow in the sixth with a three-run double to straight-away centerfield.
Ashli Lotz posted a 3-for-5 game with five RBI to power the Bears. Jessica Greenewald, Marisa Mayes and Holly Buckel each registered a pair of hits to lead the Mount offense in the contest.
UP NEXT: The Mount heads to Fairleigh Dickinson for an NEC doubleheader on Saturday, April 2. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
