MOUNT UPDATE: The Mountaineers have won three in a row and stand at 4-2 on the season. The Mount has not played since a 14-2 win over VMI on March 12th. Mark Hojnoski had a career-high eight points and a career-best six assists in the victory. Matt Vierheller played the first half in goal, making three saves while not allowing a goal. Cameron Stone posted a season-best three goals and an assists while Chris DiPretoro and Bubba Johnson each added two goals in the win. The Mount scored seven times in the second quarter to take a commanding 8-0 lead at the half.
ABOUT THE COLONIALS: Robert Morris opened Northeast Conference play with a 12-7 win over Sacred Heart last Saturday. Adrian Torok-Orban had a career-best four goals and five points to lead RMU in the win. James Rahe added three goals and two assists as well. Luke Laskiewicz leads the Colonials in scoring with 22 goals and 29 points. Torok-Orban has 17 goals and 22 points with Rahe contributing 21 points on 11 goals and 10 assists. Alex Heger has started seven games in goal, posting a 7.36 goals against average and a .627 save percentage.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES: The Mount and Robert Morris have split eight all-time meetings in the series that began in 2005. The Colonials have won the past three meetings, including a 10-7 victory last year in Moon Township, Pa. The Mount's last win over Robert Morris was a 16-15 in overtime in the Northeast Conference Tournament semifinals. The Mountaineers are 2-1 all-time at home against RMU.
LAST YEAR'S MEETING: Mount St. Mary's saw an early lead slip away in a 10-7 loss at Robert Morris last year. Mark Hojnoski paced the Mount with four goals in the game. Hojnoski posted a natural hat trick in the opening 7:50 of the game to give the Mount a 3-0 lead. There was a weather delay after Hojnoski's third goal, and Robert Morris used the delay to regroup, and score five unanswered goals to take a 5-3 lead at the half. The Mount rallied to tie the game a 6-6 in the third quarter, but the Colonials scored the next three goals to secure the win.
QUICK START: The Mountaineers have won three consecutive games to improve to 4-2 on the season. The 4-2 start is the best by a Mount team since the 2010 team opened the year with a 5-2 record. The last time the Mount had a three-game win streak was during the 2011 season. The last time the Mount had a longer win streak was a five-game streak in 2010. The Mountaineers are also 3-0 in the month of March, the first time the Mount has done that since moving to NCAA Division I in 1988-89.
