Box Score Baltimore, Md. (March 13, 2016)--Mount St. Mary's scored five times in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game, but saw Marist score the game-winning run in the bottom of the inning in a 10-9 loss on Sunday at the UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational. The Mount's second game of the day against UMBC was rained out.
Trailing 9-4 heading into the top of the seventh inning, the Mount rallied to tie the game. Emilee Kirk reached on an error to start the rally. After Holly Buckel hit into a fielder's choice, Jessica Greenewald singled and Shea McFarland walked to load the bases with one out. Rachel Heinze drove in Kirk with an RBI single to short to cut the deficit to 9-5. Lindsay Heinze then belted a grand slam to right field to knot the game at 9-9.
The Red Foxes (11-4) were able to answer the Mount rally on Gabrielle Kelleher's RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win.
Marist scored five times in the first and three more in the second to race to an 8-0 lead in the game. The Mount was able to cut the deficit in half with a four-run third inning. McFarland walked with one out, Rachel Heinze reached on an error, and Lindsay Heinze singled to load the bases. Rachel Gavigan was hit by a pitch to force home McFarland for the Mount's first run. After Marian Ruf singled to left to plate Rachel Heinze, Marisa Mayes and Buckel each walked with the bases loaded to make it 8-4.
Lindsay Heinze went 3-for-5 with four RBI while Ruf added two hits in the game. Ruf took the loss, allowing five earned runs while striking out three in a complete-game effort.
The Mountaineers are back in action next weekend at the Towson Invitational.
