Mount St. Mary's Men's Lacrosse Cruises Past VMI, 14-2

Emmitsburg, Md. (March 12, 2016)--Mark Hojnoski (West Springfield, Mass.) recorded a career-high eight points as Mount St. Mary's cruised to a 14-2 win over visiting VMI on Saturday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium on campus.  Hojnoski had two goals and a career-best six assists in the game as the Mount stretched its win streak to three.

Hojnoski's eight points are the most by a Mount player in a game since Andrew Scalley had nine points against Georgetown on March 12, 2013.  His six assists are the most since Scalley had six against Delaware on February 23, 2013.  Hojnoski also becomes the ninth player in Mount history record six or more assists in a game.

Hojnoski gave the Mount a 1-0 lead 3:36 into the game.  The score remained 1-0 the remainder of the quarter as VMI goalkeeper Joe Riccaonna made four saves.

Mount St. Mary's (4-2) exploded for seven goals in the second quarter to take an 8-0 lead at the half.  Bubba Johnson (Wyoming, Del.) started the run just under a minute into the quarter.  Freshman Chris DiPretoro (Owings, Md.) scored two minutes later, and Johnson's second goal of the game made it 4-0.  Cameron Stone (Tustin, Calif.), who recorded his first hat trick as a Mountaineer in the game, made it 5-0 with a man-up goal.  Mike Moynihan (West Islip, N.Y.), Mike Pascali (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) and DiPretoro rounded out the scoring in the half.

Hojnoski and Stone scored back-to-back goals to open the third quarter, giving the Mountaineers a commanding 10-0 advantage.  After VMI got on the scoreboard, Justin Gosnell (Aberdeen, Md.) converted a pass from Hojnoski for an 11-1 lead.  VMI's Hunt McCarthy's goal made it 11-2 after three quarters of play.  Ryan Lamon (Severna Park, Md.), Stone and Spencer Smith (Scottsdale, Ariz.) scored for the Mount in the fourth quarter to make the score 14-2.

Hojnoski led the Mount with eight points (2g, 6a) while Stone finished with four points on the afternoon on three goals and an assist.  DiPretoro chipped in two goals and an assist with Johnson adding two goals as well.

Matt Vierheller (Forest Hill, Md.) played the first half in goal for the Mount, making three saves while not allowing a goal.  Frankie McCarthy (Swarthmore, Pa.) made a pair of saves while allowing two goals in 27:20 of time, with Will Rego (Forest Hill, Md.) chipping in a save in 2:40 of action.

Mike Celmer (Toms River, N.J.) won 14-of-17 face-offs while picking up five ground balls.  Jack Mangan (Bayville, N.Y.) also had five ground balls for the Mount in the game.  Mount St. Mary's held a 37-to-23 advantage in shots and a 32-to-23 edge in ground balls.

Mount St. Mary's opens Northeast Conference play on Saturday, March 19, with a 1:00 p.m. game at four-time defending NEC Tournament champion Bryant.
