The Mount St. Mary's softball team returns to action at the UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational, which will be held this Friday thru Sunday.

Mount Update:  The Mountaineers opened the season with a nine-day trip out west, playing in the Arizona Diamond Devil Invitational along with the Arizona Wildcat Invitational.  The Mount also played road twinbills at New Mexico State and UTEP.  Megan Baker leads the team with a .385 average while Rachel Heinze is hitting .275 with four home runs and 10 RBI.

Scouting the Competition:  Morgan State, the Mount's first opponent, has opened the season with a 2-12 record.  The Bears own wins over Akron (4-2) and NEC member Bryant (6-2).  The Mount's second opponent, Coppin State, is 0-5 on the season.  Marist enters the weekend with a 7-3 record while host UMBC is 7-12 on the year.

The All-Time Series vs. the Competition:  The Mountaineers are 12-11 all-time against Morgan State.  The teams last met in 2013, splitting a doubleheader.  Mount St. Mary's is 24-5 all-time against Coppin State, but the Eagles won two of three matchups in 2015.  The Mount will be facing Marist for the first time since 1999.  The Red Foxes are 8-0 all-time against the Mountaineers.  Mount St. Mary's and UMBC split four matchups last year, with UMBC holding a 34-11 lead in the all-time series.

Heinze Moving Up HR Charts:  Rachel Heinze leads the Mountaineers with four home runs this season.  The junior now has 11 career long balls for the Mount, good for eighth on the Mount's all-time list.
