Box Score 2 Las Cruces, New Mexico (March 1, 2016)—The Mount St. Mary's softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at New Mexico State on Tuesday afternoon.
GAME 1: New Mexico State 9, Mount St. Mary's 4
In the opening game of the doubleheader, the Mount (0-7) scored twice in the top of the third inning to take a 2-1 lead. Jessica Greenewald singled with one out, and she came around to score on a Rachel Heinze triple. Lindsay Heinze followed with a base hit to left field to give the Mount the lead.
The Aggies (13-6) tied the game in the bottom of the third inning on a Fahren Glackin RBI double, and a four-run fifth inning snapped the tie. New Mexico State added three runs in the sixth to take a 9-2 lead.
The Mountaineers rounded out the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh. Greenewald and Megan Baker each singled, and Lindsay Heinze's double drove home the runners to make it 9-4.
Greenewald went 3-for-4 at the plate in the game while Baker and Rachel Heinze were both 2-for-4. Lindsay Heinze drove home three runs while going 2-for-3 with Marian Ruf also adding a pair of hits.
The Mount outhit the Aggies, 10-to-9, in the game.
GAME 2: New Mexico State 10, Mount St. Mary's 0
New Mexico State scored eight times in the bottom of the second en route to a 10-0 win in the second game of the twinbill.
Greenewald, Rachel Heinze, Rachel Gavigan, Ruf and Marisa Mayes each had a hit for the Mount in game two. Victoria Castro paced New Mexico State, going 3-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI.
Mount St. Mary's is back in action tomorrow with a doubleheader at UTEP.
