Mount Softball Downed by Houston and Arizona State

Tempe, Ariz. (February 27, 2016)—The Mount St. Mary's softball team fell to Houston and host Arizona State on Saturday at the Diamond Devil Invitational.

Houston 9, Mount St. Mary's 1

Houston scored four times in the top of the first inning to take control of the game en route to a 9-1 win in five innings over the Mount. 

The Mount offense was quiet, generating a pair of hits in the game.  Marian Ruf and Shea McFarland collected the hits while Jessica Greenewald drove in the lone run with an RBI groundout with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth inning.

No. 19 Arizona State 17, Mount St. Mary's 0

The Mountaineers lost to No. 19 Arizona State, 17-0, in the second game of the day.  Lindsay Heinze broke up Kelsey Kessler's perfect game bid with a single with one out in the top of the fifth inning.

Arizona State scored six times in the first and added nine runs in the second inning to earn the victory.

The Mount plays NEC rival Saint Francis U on Sunday in the final game of the Diamond Devil Invitational.
