MOUNT UPDATE: Mount St. Mary's fell to 1-1 on the season with a 9-5 loss at No. 15 Towson on Saturday. Matt Vierheller made 15 saves while Mark Hojnoski paced the offense with three goals and an assist. Ryan Lamon added a goal and an assist as well. Lamon scored one minute into the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 7-5, but the Mount was unable to get any closer. Click HERE for a full recap.
ABOUT RICHMOND: Richmond defeated UMBC, 7-5, on Saturday to improve to 2-0 on the season. The Spiders opened the year with an 11-10 win at Fairfield. Alex Hatem and Tddy Hatfield each scored twice for Richmond in the win over UMBC while goalkeeper Connor Gordon made 12 saves.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES: The Mountaineers were edged by Richmond, 8-7, at Waldron Family Stadium last year in the first all-time meeting between the teams.
HAT TRICKS: Evan Gormley recorded a career-high four goals in the Mount's 14-11 win at Delaware in the season opener. Bubba Johnson added a hat trick in that game as well while Mark Hojnoski had three goals in the loss at Towson.
VIERHELLER vs. TOWSON: Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Vierheller made 15 saves in the Mount's 9-5 loss at Towson. Vierheller made a career-best 17 saves against the Tigers last season. He is now 1-1 with a 10.00 goals against average and a .545 save percentage this season.
LAST YEAR'S GAME: Mark Hojnoski had two goals an an assist, but the Mount was edged by Richmond, 8-7, at home last year. Consecutive goals by Bubba Johnson and Hojnoski made the score 8-7 midway through the fourth quarter, bu tthe Mount was unable to get the equalizer.
