Emmitsburg, Md. (February 11, 2016)--The Mount St. Mary's University men's lacrosse season opener at Delaware has been moved to Friday, February 12, at noon, due to expected low temperatures on Saturday.
The Mountaineers are coming off a 5-10 season that saw the team advance to the Northeast Conference Tournament for the first time since 2012. Justin Gosnell (21g, 6a, 27 pts) and Bubba Johnson (17g, 8a, 25 pts) are the top returning scorers. NEC All-Rookie selection Matt Vierheller (8.36 GAA, .567 SV Pct.) returns in goal for the Mountaineers.
Delaware opened the 2016 season with a 13-5 loss at Bucknell on February 6. Paul Major led the Blue Hens with two goals and an assist while Chris Colaneri added a goal and two helpers. Parker Ferrigan started in goal, allowing 10 goals with five saves in 35:06 of action.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES: The Mountaineers are 2-12 all-time against Delaware since moving to NCAA Division I in 1988-89. The Blue Hens have won the past two matchups after the Mount had won the previous two meetings.
LAST YEAR'S MEETING: Mount St. Mary's saw its fourth-quarter rally come up just short in an 11-10 loss to visiting Delaware at Waldron Family Stadium on Feb. 24 last season. Spencer Smith paced the Mount with a career-high four goals in the game. Click HERE for a full RECAP.
CAPTAINS: The Mountaineers have named Evan Gormley, Bubba Johnson and Brent Tsang team captains for the 2016 season.
SCHEDULE NOTES: The start time for the Mount's game at Towson on February 20 has been moved to 2:00 p.m....The Mount's home game against UMBC has been moved to April 12 at 7:00 p.m.
