Pittsburgh, Pa (November 12, 2016) – Junior Caroline Hummell registered her first career double-double with a career-high 11 points and 10 rebounds, and grad transfer Mikal Johnson chipped in a team-high 14 points, but the Mount dropped its season opener at Pittsburgh, 89-54, on Saturday afternoon at the Petersen Events Center.

Hummell scored nine of her 11 points in the second half and went 4-for-7 from the field to lead the Mount. The junior's 11 rebounds eclipsed her previous career high of five, which she registered last season against Saint Francis U. Johnson dropped 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting in her Mount debut, and junior Katrice Dickson also notched double-figures with 10 points.

Five panthers posted double-digit scoring performances, led by Jasmine Whitney's 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Alayna Gribble and Kauai Bradley helped pace Pittsburgh 16 points apiece.

The Mount and Pittsburgh traded buckets through much of the first quarter, but the Panthers came on strong in the final minutes, scoring the last eight points of the frame to take a 23-13 advantage into the second.

The Panthers continued their run into the second period, scoring the opening nine points to widen the gap to 32-13 before Johnson broke the rally with her second bucket of the game at the 6:30 mark. The Pitt defense held the Mountaineers to just two more baskets in the final six-plus minutes to take a 43-20 lead into the halftime break. Dickson and Johnson led the way for the Mount in the opening half, combining for 14 of the team's 20 points.

The Mount registered its highest scoring quarter of the contest in the third, dropping 22 points in the stanza. Hummell and Kate Kuster fueled the Mount's 17-10 run midway through the third, combining for 14 points during the stretch, but Pittsburgh took a 65-42 lead into the fourth.

The Panther defense stymied the Mountaineers in the final quarter, holding them to just 12 points as they closed out the 89-54 victory.

The Mount shot 35.1-percent from the field in the contest compared to Pittsburgh's 48.5-percent. The Panthers also went 12-for-30 (.400 pct.) from downtown on the afternoon.

The Mount returns to Emmitsburg for its home opener at Knott Arena this Tuesday, November 15 at 7 p.m.
