Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Fairfield, Conn. (May 2, 2015) – Closing out the 2015 season with a road doubleheader at Sacred Heart, the Mount St. Mary's University softball team earned a split on Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Park. The Mount won game one, 3-1, and fell by a 3-0 final score in the nightcap. Rachel Heinze (Charlotte Hall, Md.) finished with three hits to lead the Mount's offense.

The Mountaineers conclude the season with an 11-33 overall record and a 4-12 Northeast Conference record.

"I am so proud of how this team played today," Mount St. Mary's Head Coach Anna Nagro said. "They had a ton of energy and heart. I am so happy for how our seniors ended, and they are a great example of this program and outstanding student-athletes."

GAME ONE: Mount St. Mary's 3 – Sacred Heart 1

The Mountaineers fell behind early, but earned a comeback 3-1 victory with a three-run fourth inning to win game one. Senior Danni Cummings (Owings, Md.) put together a strong pitching performance, allowing seven hits and one walk in a complete game to earn her fourth victory of the season in her final career appearance.

Sacred Heart (14-30, 5-11 NEC) picked up the day's first run in the bottom of the second before the Mount responded with three runs in the fourth.

Maria Santiago (Buena, N.J.) knocked in two runs with a single to right field to score Rachel Gavigan (Vineland, N.J.) and Niki Gonzalez (Tucson, Ariz.) for a 2-1 lead. The Mount's final run came when Marisa Mayes (Mesa, Ariz.) stole second and Santiago swiped home for a 3-1 advantage.

That was all the run support Cummings needed as she kept the Pioneers off the board the rest of the way.

Sacred Heart pitcher Jamie Carlson struck out nine batters but took the loss, allowing two earned runs on four hits in a complete game.

GAME TWO: Sacred Heart 3 – Mount St. Mary's 0

Mount St. Mary's gave up two runs in the first and one in the fourth in a 3-0 game two loss to Sacred Heart.

After scoring two in the first, the Pioneers added another run on Lauren Delgadillo's RBI double to left field in the bottom of the fourth.

Heinze added two more hits in game two, including a double in the sixth.

Kacie Wentworth hurled a complete game shutout with five strikeouts to earn the victory for the Pioneers. For the Mount, senior Hayley Stankan (Cumberland, Md.) tossed the first three innings, giving up just two hits and two runs. Sophomore Sam Lichtner (Morgantown, Pa.) pitched the final three innings, yielding one run on one hit.
