Emmitsburg, Md. (April 28, 2015) – The Mount St. Mary's University Athletic Department announced winners of the Kolon Award and Sheridan Award at the annual Blue and White Banquet on April 27 at Knott Arena. Heather Juhring (Logan Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional)and Andrew Clow (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) were named Kolon Award winners, whileErin Regan (Ft. Washington, Pa. / Upper Dublin) and Nick Firman (Fayetteville, N.Y. / Jamesville DeWitt) took home the Sheridan Award.
The Kolon Award, which is voted on by the Mount athletic department, goes to the student-athlete, who through hard work and determination has earned the respect and admiration of his or her fellow athletes and coaches, and who, through inspirational effort has displayed the determination exemplified by the late Jack Kolon.
Juhring, who is in her fourth season as a standout on the track and field team, has advanced to the NCAA East Preliminary round for the javelin three years in a row. The New Jersey native holds the school record for the javelin and ranks in the top 10 in Mount history for the hammer throw.
A senior on the baseball team, Clow was named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List for college baseball's top catcher. Clow, who was a First Team All-Northeast Conference selection a year ago, ranks second on the team with a .360 batting average, good for fourth in the conference.
The Sheridan Award, which is also voted on by the Mount athletic department, is for the college student-athlete, who, through athletic and academic achievement, has exemplified the spirit and dedication demanded by intercollegiate athletics, and who, through such activity has fostered the ideals of Monsignor John L. Sheridan and Mount St. Mary's University.
Regan is the most decorated swimmer in Mount St. Mary's history. She has earned eight Northeast Conference medals, three of which are gold, and eight All-NEC selections. Regan is the first swimmer in school history to win an individual gold medal at the NEC Championships and holds school records in a number of events. She has been a member of the NEC Academic Honor Roll throughout her time at the Mount.
Firman is a two-year starter for the Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse team. Helping the squad qualify for the NEC Tournament this season, the senior defenseman ranks second on the team for ground balls (38) and caused turnovers (13). In 33 career games, Firman has compiled 73 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers. The New York native has earned NEC Academic Honor Roll recognition during his career with the Mountaineers.
Also at the banquet, it was announced that the men's basketball team won this year's Mount Cup.
