Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Brooklyn, N.Y. (April 26, 2015) – The Mount St. Mary's University softball team lost a pair of Northeast Conference games at LIU Brooklyn on Sunday, falling by scores of 10-2 and 9-5. Sophomore Rachel Heinze (Charlotte Hall, Md.) went 2-for-5 at the plate with a home run and a double to lead the Mount's offense.

Mount St. Mary's (10-30, 3-11 NEC) had won four of their last five games entering Sunday, but LIU Brooklyn (18-27, 8-6 NEC) outhit the Mount, 20-6, in the doubleheader to win both games.

GAME ONE: LIU Brooklyn 10 – Mount St. Mary's 2 (5 Innings)

The Mount sprinted out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Blackbirds responded by quickly leveling the score and running away with a 10-2 win in five innings in game one.

Freshman Morgan Alisauckas (Pottsville, Pa.) hit an RBI single through the left side of the infield in the first after Jessica Greenewald (Morrisville, Pa.) led off with a walk and Megan Baker (Waynesboro, Pa.) followed with a bunt single. Two batters later, freshman Niki Gonzalez (Tucson, Ariz.) knocked a sacrifice fly to center to plate Baker for an early 2-0 lead.

The lead was short lived, however, as Victoria Zamora smacked a two-run homer for LIU in the bottom of the frame to even the score at 2-2.

The Mountaineers threatened in the second with runners on first and third with two outs, but could not get a run across in the frame.

The Blackbirds took the lead with two runs in the third, and Kylie Mulholland led off the fourth with a solo home run as part of a four-run inning. LIU went on to score two more in the bottom of the fifth on Ariana Lopez's two-run double to give the Blackbirds the 10-2 win.

In the circle, Sam Lichtner (Morgantown, Pa.) took the loss with three earned runs on eight hits in 4.0 innings. For LIU Brooklyn, Nicole Archer hurled a complete game, yielding two runs on four hits for the victory.

GAME TWO: LIU Brooklyn 9 – Mount St. Mary's 5

The Mountaineers again took a first-inning lead but could not hold on in a 9-5 loss to LIU Brooklyn in game two on Sunday.

Heinze launched her sixth home run of the season over the fence in left center field in the top of the first for a 1-0 lead. The Blackbirds countered with a run in the bottom of the first and two in the third for a 3-1 advantage.

The Mount was able to regain the lead with four runs in the top of the fifth as all nine batters in the lineup had at bats in the inning. After loading the bases with one out, Baker knocked in a run on a fielder's choice, and the Mount added another run on a Blackbird fielding error. With the bases still loaded, Rachel Teti (Mt. Airy, Md.) drew a walk to force home a run before Gonzalez followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Mount the 5-3 lead.

Momentum again swung back to LIU with five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Lopez capped the run with a two-run home run to left. The Blackbirds added one more run in the sixth on Celinna Cosio's sacrifice fly.

Freshman Marian Ruf (Mesa, Ariz.) pitched the first 4.2 innings with seven earned runs on eight hits in the loss. Shelley Proctor was credited with the win after tossing 2.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the Blackbirds.

UP NEXT: The Mount travels to Towson for a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 29. Game one is set for 3 p.m. with a 5 p.m. start time for game two.
