Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Staten Island, N.Y. (April 25, 2015) – For the first time since the 1999 season, the Mount St. Mary's University softball team swept a road doubleheader from Wagner, winning game one on Saturday by a 4-3 final score before taking game two, 6-2.

The Mount (10-28, 3-9 NEC) entered Saturday with a 3-17 record in road games at Wagner (9-25, 1-15 NEC) in the all-time series with the last win in Staten Island coming in 2009 when the two sides split a doubleheader.

Mount St. Mary's (10-28, 3-9 NEC) received strong pitching performances from starters Sam Lichtner (Morgantown, Pa.) and Marian Ruf (Mesa, Ariz.), while Danni Cummings (Owings, Md.) came out of the bullpen in both games, earning a save in game one.

"We played textbook softball all day," Mount St. Mary's Head Coach Anna Nagro said. "Our pitchers did an outstanding job working together and pitching by committee. I am so proud to have the privilege of coaching a team that never gives up and plays the game they love tough every day. Today was one small glimpse of what this team is capable of doing if we stick together and play hard."

GAME ONE: Mount St. Mary's 4 – Wagner 3

The Mountaineers were down to their final two outs and trailing 3-0 in the top of the seventh when Rachel Heinze (Charlotte Hall, Md.) delivered the game-winning grand slam to give the Mount an improbable 4-3 victory in game one.

"Down three runs in the top of the seventh, the bottom half of the order was able to get on base and Heinze came up with one big swing to win the game," Nagro said.

Lichtner started in the circle for the Mount and cruised through the first five innings. In the sixth, however, Wagner was able to break through for three runs on Aerika High's two-run double followed by a Mount error for another run. Lichtner earned her fourth victory of the season, striking out five batters while giving up three runs on six hits.

For Wagner, McKaleigh Goodale took the loss with four runs on seven hits.

With the Mount trailing 3-0 in the seventh, Niki Gonzalez (Tucson, Ariz.) reached on an error and her pinch runner Rachel Gavigan (Vineland, N.J.) advanced to second on a single up the middle from Marisa Mayes (Mesa, Ariz.). Maria Santiago (Buena, N.J.) knocked an infield single to load the bases setting up Heinze's grand slam.

Out of the bullpen, Cummings set down the Seahawks in order to pick up her first save since 2012.

GAME TWO: Mount St. Mary's 6 – Wagner 2

Wagner jumped on the Mount with two runs in the third, forcing the Mountaineers to earn another comeback victory by a 6-2 final score in the nightcap.

After Megan Baker (Waynesboro, Pa.) reached on an error to begin the fourth inning, freshman Morgan Alisauckas (Pottsville, Pa.) blasted her team-leading seventh home run to level the score at 2-2.

The Mountaineers continued to score runs in the fifth with Heinze and Alisauckas picking up RBIs in the frame for a 4-2 lead. Tori Belloc (Casa Grande, Ariz.) gave the Mount more breathing room with a two-run home run in the top of the sixth after Gonzalez's leadoff walk.

Cummings hurled two scoreless innings in relief for the Mount with Ruf earning the win with two earned runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings of work. Samantha Bedker was tabbed with the loss after giving up five earned runs on four hits in a complete-game effort.

UP NEXT: The Mount remains in New York to play a doubleheader at LIU Brooklyn tomorrow. Games are set for 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

GAME NOTES: The Mount has won four of its last five games… With seven home runs this season, Morgan Alisauckas moves into a tie for seventh for home runs in a season in Mount St. Mary's history.
