MOUNT UPDATE: Eight games remain on the Mount St. Mary's University softball team's 2015 regular season slate with four scheduled for this weekend. The Mountaineers head to New York for Saturday's doubleheader at Wagner before a pair of games at LIU Brooklyn the following day.
LAST TIME OUT: Competing at Our Lady of the Meadows Field for the final time this season, the Mountaineers picked up a split versus Atlantic-10 opponent George Mason in Wednesday's doubleheader. The Mount took game one, 5-4, but fell by an 8-2 score in game two. For the Mount, Morgan Alisauckas, Niki Gonzalez and Rachel Teti registered two RBIs apiece to pace the offense, while Brooke Blankenship hit home runs in both games for the Patriots.
ABOUT WAGNER: The Seahawks are looking to snap a nine-game losing streak with Saturday marking the end of their regular season schedule. Despite a 1-13 NEC record, Wagner boasts a pair of strong starting pitchers in McKaleigh Goodale (2.41 ERA) and Samantha Bedker (3.47 ERA).
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. WAGNER: Mount St. Mary's has posted a 9-34 record in the all-time series versus Wagner since the first meeting in 1990. In games in Staten Island, N.Y., the Mount has gone 3-17. The Mountaineers' last road win in the series came in 2009.
ABOUT LIU BROOKLYN: Looking to move back into the playoff picture, the fifth-place Blackbirds are 5-5 in NEC play this season. LIU Brooklyn has gone 1-4 in its last five games and is coming off a split with third-place Saint Francis U on April 19. Whitney West leads the way for the Blackbirds with a .325 batting average with Nicole Archer knocking a team-best six home runs.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. LIU BROOKLYN: The Mountaineers have dominated the Blackbirds of late, winning four of the last five meetings including a sweep of last year's doubleheader. Historically, LIU Brooklyn has had the upper hand in the series winning 40 of the 51 meetings dating back to 1984. The Mount is 4-25 versus the Blackbirds in Brooklyn with the two sides splitting a doubleheader in 2013.
2 OF 3: Entering one of the most important weekends of the season in terms of Northeast Conference standings, the Mount has won two of the last three games. The Mountaineers split doubleheaders with UMBC and George Mason in their final home action earlier this week.
IMMEDIATE IMPACT: Freshmen Niki Gonzalez and Morgan Alisauckas lead the Mount with batting averages of .312 and .309, respectively. Already making major contributions in their first seasons, Gonzalez and Alisauckas are also tied for the team lead with six multiple-RBI games on the year.
NEC PRESEASON POLL: Mount St. Mary's was selected to finish eighth in the annual Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Central Connecticut was picked first in the poll with four first-place votes, followed closely by Bryant, which also picked up four top votes. LIU Brooklyn and Robert Morris finished 3-4 in the poll with the Blackbirds of LIU picking up the final first-place vote. FDU, Saint Francis U and Wagner followed, with the Mount finishing ahead of Sacred Heart in this year's poll.
