MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount St. Mary's softball team is scheduled to host the final two home doubleheaders of the season with games versus UMBC on Tuesday, April 21, and George Mason on Wednesday, April 22, at Our Lady of the Meadows Field. Freshman Niki Gonzalez has been the Mount's most consistent hitter this season, leading the team with a .325 batting average and eight multi-hit games. Three other underclassmen, Jessica Greenewald, Morgan Alisauckas and Tori Belloc, are all hitting .290 or better.
LAST TIME OUT: The Mount dropped a pair of NEC games by 3-0 final scores to Fairleigh Dickinson on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at Our Lady of the Meadows Field. In a pair of pitchers' duels, Danni Cummings and Marian Ruf tossed complete games for the Mount.
In between games, Mount St. Mary's honored Cummings, Maria Santiago, Hayley Stankan, Rachel Teti and Casey Beck with a Senior Day ceremony.
ABOUT UMBC: Coming off a pair of home losses to Lehigh on April 18, the Retrievers are 20-17 on the season entering Tuesday's doubleheader. The high-scoring UMBC squad carries a team batting average of .304 led by Tori Alexander's .420 average, while senior catcher Taylor Hall is one of just 10 players in UMBC history to record 200 or more career hits. In the circle, Jessica Holte has posted a team-best 2.04 ERA and a 12-7 record.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. UMBC: Mount St. Mary's has gone 10-33 in the all-time series versus UMBC at the Division I level, but has dominated the Retrievers in recent games with a 7-1 record in the last eight. The Mount holds a 2-16 home record against UMBC including a sweep at Our Lady of the Meadows Field in 2011. In a doubleheader in Baltimore earlier this season, the two sides split with the Mount winning game two.
ABOUT GEORGE MASON: George Mason has won four in a row but has gone 6-16 in games away from home this season. Four starters, Liz Seymour, Brooke Blankenship, Mary O'Connor and Casey Price, are hitting .324 or better on the year.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. GEORGE MASON: The Mountaineers are 14-31 against the Patriots with the last meeting coming in 2011. From 1991-2011, the two sides had squared off every season except for 2001.
PINK DAY: Wednesday's doubleheader versus George Mason will serve as the annual Pink Day where the Mount will don pink uniform tops to raise awareness about breast cancer.
PITCHING PERFORMANCES: In Saturday's losses to FDU, Mount pitchers Danni Cummings and Marian Ruf combined to give up just 11 hits and three earned runs in a pair of strong performances. All three of Cummings' runs were unearned in game one.
UP NEXT: The Mount heads to New York for a pair of Northeast Conference doubleheaders this weekend. After taking on Wagner on Saturday, April 25, the Mountaineers conclude the weekend with a twinbill at LIU Brooklyn on Sunday, April 26.
