Mount Softball Fall in Saturday's Doubleheader Versus Fairleigh Dickinson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 18, 2015) – The Mount St. Mary's University softball team dropped a pair of Northeast Conference games by 3-0 final scores to Fairleigh Dickinson on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at Our Lady of the Meadows Field.

In a pair of pitchers' duels, Danni Cummings (Owings, Md.) and Marian Ruf (Mesa, Ariz.) tossed complete games for the Mount (6-26, 1-9 NEC), while Loren Stavrou and Megan Reiner picked up shutouts for the Knights (11-17, 7-5 NEC).

In between games, Mount St. Mary's honored Cummings, Maria Santiago (Buena, N.J.), Hayley Stankan (Cumberland, Md.), Rachel Teti (Mt. Airy, Md.) and Casey Beck (Severna Park, Md.) with a Senior Day ceremony.

"Today's outcome wasn't ideal for us, but it was still a beautiful day to celebrate our seniors," Mount St. Mary's Head Coach Anna Nagro said. "Our pitchers stepped up and pitched two great games, but the difference was timely hitting. I am confident this team is going to turn it around, and until they do we will continue to believe in these players and this program."

GAME ONE: FDU 3 – Mount St. Mary's 0

The Mountaineers outhit FDU by a 5-4 margin, but the Knights capitalized on three Mount St. Mary's errors with three earned runs to take game one.

FDU tallied a pair of runs in the top of the fourth before adding an insurance run in the top of the sixth to put the game away. In the circle, Stavrou kept Mount hitters off balance with five strikeouts in a complete-game shutout.

The Mountaineers produced scoring chances throughout the game, putting runners on third base in the first, second, fourth and seventh innings but could not produce the key hit to score a run.

Cummings took the loss for the Mount despite not giving up an earned run while yielding just four hits. At the dish, Marisa Mayes (Mesa, Ariz.) accounted for two of the team's hits with a pair of singles.

GAME TWO: FDU 3 – Mount St. Mary's 0

Game two was another low-scoring affair with the Knights scoring all three of their runs in the top of the seventh inning.

In the circle, Ruf turned in one of the best outings in her young collegiate career with a season-high nine strikeouts. The freshman from Mesa, Ariz. notched her 12th complete game of the season, giving up three earned runs on seven hits for the Mount. FDU's Reiner matched Ruf every step of the way with seven strikeouts while allowing four hits to take the victory.

FDU's runs came on Stephanie Collins' RBI single up the middle followed by Madeline Wilen's home run over the left field fence to score two more runs in the seventh.

For the Mount, the top four hitters in the lineup, Jessica Greenewald (Morrisville, Pa.), Megan Baker (Waynesboro, Pa.), Niki Gonzalez (Tucson, Ariz.) and Teti all picked up hits in game two.

UP NEXT: The Mountaineers are back in action for a home doubleheader on Tuesday, April 21, versus UMBC. The first game is slated for 3 p.m.
