Mount St. Mary's Softball Hosts FDU on Saturday for Senior Day

MOUNT UPDATE: With 14 regular season games remaining, the Mount St. Mary's University softball team hosts Fairleigh Dickinson for a doubleheader at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on Saturday. The Mount's top four hitters in terms of batting average are all underclassmen led by Niki Gonzalez's .338 average.

SENIOR DAY: In between games of Saturday's doubleheader, Mount St. Mary's will honor Casey Beck, Danni Cummings, Maria Santiago, Hayley Stankan and Rachel Teti for their dedication to the softball program with a Senior Day ceremony.

LAST TIME OUT: The Mountaineers were dealt a pair of home losses by Central Connecticut in NEC action on April 12. CCSU won by scores of 2-0 and 12-2. Niki Gonzalez knocked in a pair of runs with a two-RBI double in game two for the Mount.

ABOUT FDU: Fairleigh Dickinson sits alone in fifth place in the NEC standings at 5-5 with the top four qualifying for the NEC Tournament. The Knights have split their last three doubleheaders, most recently taking a game from Manhattan on April 14 at home. Madeline Wilen leads FDU's offense with a .386 batting average to headline a dangerous lineup that features five players hitting .300 or better this season.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. FDU: Mount St. Mary's has won four of the last six matchups with the Knights and holds a 17-9 lead in the all-time series. Dating back to the first meeting in 2001, the Mount has gone 7-5 at home in the series. The two sides split a doubleheader in Hackensack, N.J. last season with the Mount winning game one, 1-0, before falling by a 2-1 margin in game two.

SCHEDULE CHANGE: The Mount's doubleheader scheduled for April 28 versus UMBC has been switched to April 21 at Our Lady of the Meadows Field. The twinbill will begin at 3 p.m.

NEC PRESEASON POLL: Mount St. Mary's was selected to finish eighth in the annual Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Central Connecticut was picked first in the poll with four first-place votes, followed closely by Bryant, which also picked up four top votes. LIU Brooklyn and Robert Morris finished 3-4 in the poll with the Blackbirds of LIU picking up the final first-place vote. FDU, Saint Francis U and Wagner followed, with the Mount finishing ahead of Sacred Heart in this year's poll.

UP NEXT: The Mount closes the home portion of its schedule with doubleheaders versus UMBC on Tuesday, April 21, and George Mason on Wednesday, April 22.
